PM5 and multiple users

Post by Navrig » April 4th, 2022, 9:02 am

I am waiting on my Concept2 being delivered. Meantime I am getting myself and my wife setup with ERGData on our respective mobile phones. I am assuming that the PM5 will connect to more than one phone (not at the same time) to allow both of us to use the rower.

Is my assumption correct?

The PM5 will connect to ONE phone at a time but as many phones as it ever sees running Ergdata. Disconnect (or turn off Bluetooth) when you're done to avoid recording workouts against the wrong user.

There are some gotcha's that are easy to fix.

The PM5 will stay on and connected to your phone even after your row ends. You need to take action to break the connection. If you don't your battery life in the PM5 will be poor and your rows could end up going to the wrong person.

1. You should turn off the PM5 after use. Press the MENU button slowly 4 times. The PM5 will turn off. That will break the Bluetooth connection between your phone and the PM5 so that the next rower will need to re-establish a connection. This saves the battery and prevents a new rowing session getting recorded on the prior rowers ergdata.

2.You can use Near Field Communication (NFC) from your phone to switch the rower from one phone to another. NFC will break any current ergdata-->phone linkage and replace it with your phone. https://www.concept2.com/service/softwa ... munication But NFC will not turn off your PM5, so you still want to turn off your PM5 as above.

3. You can drop the bluetooth connection from your phone. this is a pain, I don't know anyone who does this. Once the bluetooth connection is gone the PM5 will time out and turn off. If you phone moves far enough away that will also break the bluetooth connection and allow the PM5 to power off.

Ergdata will remember your heart rate monitor and auto connect it. Since you and your wife will each have their own ergdata then your can each have your own HR monitor or share one. I find having heart rate data useful, but not everyone agrees.

If you have not yet done so, look into the Concept2 Log. You can your wife can have separate logs. If you want to you can be "training partners" and see each others' log. Once each of you row 1 million meters Concept2 will send you each a t-shirt. There are also many challenges, etc that can make rowing more fun that are linked to the log.

Thanks guys - great start to information gathering.

I will (and already do) disconnect my mobile blue tooth when using the garage for training. This is to ensure that my headphones connect to the tablet mounted on my turbo trainer bike. I'll just do that in reverse when using the rower - BT on for the phone and off for the tablet (Rower) and BT off for the phone and on for the tablet (Turbo).
