Factory default reset it.
hold down the bottom two left buttons and stick a paperclip end in the reset on the back.
if it comes back to life immediately update the firmware on it.
Don't keep on using it with old firmware.
if it comes back with the same code it's dead get a new monitor.

You should also write an email to info@concept2.com to ask what the code means. You may be eligible for a warranty replacement (depending on the age of the PM5).

So............response from C2......
(My PM5 was running the latest firmware...response from Concept2)
"...We’ve seen this 1943/1944 error message pop up after a firmware update with a USB flash drive. If you pull the batteries from the monitor for greater than 5 minutes then that should clear the error message. ..."
did that and looks good.
weird how updating with cable v flash drive makes a difference.

Re: PM5 Error code 1944-3000
The preferred method to update the firmware is a printer USB cable and a Windows 10 Laptop with a fully charged battery and also plugged into mains power if its available.
I wouldn't use the USB stick method.
The cable also provides power to the PM5 and doesn't rely on the batteries. The memory stick uses a lot of current and if your batteries are about to go flat it could crash and burn during the update.
It was a bad idea to use a standard USB stick in the PM5, it should have been an SD Card or micro SD Card.
