Cracklings creaking noise on model c seat under load (seat movement only)
Cracklings creaking noise on model c seat under load (seat movement only)
Have an older model c (97) rower with incredibly low Milage, the meter reads 1071 (holding OK, right arrow), aside from being dirty things seem to be in reasonable shape aside from a noise in the seat. I’ve cleaned the rail and rollers. Even took rollers apart to see clean them hoping that would resolve the problem. I put it back together with the 4 spacers in the proper place. Wondering if new rollers are required to eliminate the noise.
The noise is noticeable anytime there is a load on the seat, when the seat moves without load it’s perfectly silent. It’s kind of a intermittent creaking. I looked at other posts on here but they seemed to be related to dirty rollers or rails.
Have video but can’t attach it as a file - may be able to link to a YouTube clip.

Is it the seat? I have a creaking where the two halfs of the rower join together, also a model c. Its noticable when I am pushing back from the catch and it sounds like the footplates are creaking. I clean all the connection points with chain lube oil, just wipe it over everything and it goes. Its probably dried dirt creating friction.

I’ll check that out as an option, but it “feels” like it’s coming from the seat. I’ll report back if that resolves it.Dutch wrote: ↑April 30th, 2021, 5:58 amIs it the seat? The frame lock seems to be secure. Doesn’t seem like there’s any noise or movt happening there. It’s just coming from the seat. Nothing when I move the seat by hand, only when a notable load is placed on it.
Or did I miss something in that post you referenced? Admittedly new to owning/maintaining one.

It may be the stainless steel rail track. If the adhesive has come loose and there are gaps, it will flex and possibly make those noises. It is a replaceable part; https://shop.concept2.com/parts/342-tra ... c-d-e.html.

Usually sign of bearing race getting shredded in one of the rollers.
Re: Cracklings creaking noise on model c seat under load (seat movement only)
I just listened to your vid and I would suspect that one or more of the holes that the roller bearings press into have become oversized, resulting in shifting of the bearing in the hole as the roller rotates. Seen this before, and the simplest solution would be new rollers, but a few drops of carefully placed Crazy Glue or similar adhesive might fill the gap between the roller and bearing and quiet it down.
