Model E discontinued

Post by mict450 » February 16th, 2021, 12:52 am

Model E has been DC'd. Model D has been renamed "RowErg". Available in black only. Longer legs available for those who prefer an elevated height option.

Will this sub-forum now be renamed "Concept2 RowErg"?

That doesn't appear to be entirely true.

https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/concept2-rowerg
has an "elevated model" (in stealth black) next to a "standard" RowErg (also in stealth black)
NEW: The Concept2 RowErg is available in two heights: standard (14” seat height) and elevated (20” seat height). The standard height is the same as the Model D. The elevated height option has taller legs that make the seat 20 inches from the floor and replaces the Model E, which is now discontinued. The elevated height option is anticipated to start shipping to wait list customers in May 2021.
They've also given the new RowErg "elevated" a moveable monitor arm (which is a big improvement).

I find it interesting that the renaming of their indoor rower takes its cue from the SkiErg & BikeErg & not in following their over 40 yr practice of designating their latest generation as "Model F".

Their marketing dept clearly won that battle.

Yeah model A, B C D and then F....kind of moving in the wrong direction for a perceived improved product.

Cannot see how they can improve it much more except for the flywheel needs to get rid of the clip on weights and it needs to be balanced in a permanent manner the way they balance a turbo compressor wheel from 30 years ago or even the armature in your car starter motor these days when I pulled a 2010 Ford Focus one apart to fix the other day.

You balance it by CNC machining metal off the opposite side, not by adding weights that can rust and fall off.

Nope. My car doesn't have a starter motor but then it doesn't burn any dirty stuff that's been sucked out of the ground.

I would love to order me a set of the taller legs. Hopefully they will turn up in the parts list.

I wonder if the "tall legs" can be retrofitted onto a Model C or D?

You would think that they could be, but if you also want the taller legs to be stronger than the "normal" C or D legs they would attach in more places than the existing designs for the short legs allows.

Thinking of the legs myself as the other half isn't fond of it being so low when she uses it.

FAQ is saying $180, available in May (though retrofit kit may be later) and can be fitted to a C or D (not A or B ).

The RowErg with tall legs is anticipated to start shipping to wait list customers in May 2021. The tall legs will also be available as a separate retrofit later on this year. See the FAQs for more information

Can I put the taller legs on my Model D?

Yes, the tall legs will eventually be available as a retrofit option for the Model D. This will bring it to the 20” seat height. The cost for the retrofit kit will be $180.00, excluding shipping and taxes

Are older model machines (Model A, B or C) retrofittable with the taller legs?

The tall legs will eventually be available as a retrofit option for the Model C, bringing it to a 20” seat height.
It is not possible to retrofit the taller legs onto a Model A or B

Looking at the picture, I'd say yes. The bases look the same as the standard legs. Spacing on the slides might be a little different.

Very interesting marketing choice. I guess thats the end of the longer fixed arm for the PM5 that the Model E had and the plastic/rubber coated chain?

When the E came out in 2006 it had several features that differentiated it from the Model D:
* Taller seating position
* Fixed monitor arm
* Clear coated paint
* Nickel coated chain
* PM4 monitor- the Model D came with the PM3

When the PM5 came out it was offered on both Model D and E. The nickel coated chain became standard on both, and a superior paint was also used on both models. So the only real feature that was left on the E was the extra height. The discontinuation of the E makes sense, and the tall leg option is a great way to retain that feature for anyone who wants it.

C2 states that all their models are compatible with their slides. I'm assuming the RowErg should be no different, whether short or long leg.
