Model B Skewer Screws

I recently rebuilt my Model B rower. Instead of the 4 #8 screws mentioned in the literature that hold the skewer assembly in the rail, my rower had #10 screws and nuts going all the way through the skewer axles. There are no internal threads in the skewer axles. It does not appear that the skewer axles were drilled or altered. Just curious - has anyone else seen this?

Reading through this forum, I happened upon a "Different versions of Model B" thread. I realize now that I have a Model A converted to a Model B, some years ago. I have yet to find a serial number, however.

I wondered about that after reading your original post, but decided to not say anything since I'm really not familiar with the A's and B's.

The early skewer assemblies used stainless tubes for the axles with a #10 screw and nut at each end of the skewer. Later we switched to solid axles with threaded holes for four #8 screws.
