PM3 Firmware upgrade fail
PM3 Firmware upgrade fail
I tried upgrading my PM3 firmware after 10 years (I know I know!) and think this may have been too big an ask for it. It started off fine but after about 15 minutes, when I looked again, the Utility showed 'device not connected' and checking the log I just saw a continual list of "Error with tkcmdsetDDI_fw_version. Unit 0 Last Error= -10123". The PM3 screen shows 'Concept 2 USB Flash Loader' with the serial number, revision (314) and 'USB Connected'. I think it's probably borked and can't see it sorting itself out after what is now an hour- any harm in trying to reset it?

Run this https://software.concept2.com/pm3firmwa ... 1Setup.exe first. (Only works on Windows.)
Re: PM3 Firmware upgrade fail
Thanks for the quick replay. Unfortunately that didn't help (program started OK but exited without any error message before it finished). Am now resetting the PM3 and hoping the crash happened before the firmware upgrade actually started. Not optimistic!
Re: PM3 Firmware upgrade fail
What a pleasant surprise - the PM3 came back to life no problem, having not even lost any data. Manage to get the log data off the device (my main goal) and so won't bother with another firmware upgrade attempt, doesn't seem worth it.

Re: PM3 Firmware upgrade fail
You need to bypass that error message while still USB connected to the PC.
I presume you were using the V101 update utility ?
This is a hairy bit of software to use and if you pull the USB cable too early your stuffed.
Errors like "USB Buffer Full" pop up in dialogue boxes but you need to press keys to get around them and continue without disconnection of the USB cable.
I think its possible to put the monitor back into the Loader mode, but unfortunately I never found a way to fix the few bricked monitors I was given over 10 years ago now. Simply didn't have the knowledge at the time.
Updated over 100 of the PM3's over the years and not managed to stuff it up. As long as the PC recognizes the new USB connection and you wait for it to setup and tell you the PM3 is ready to go your off to a good start.
