Issue with Slides - Hitting the Front

Post by Fryerrobin » September 4th, 2020, 1:32 pm

Hi,

I have had a pair of slides for the static erg for about a year and a half.

I recently got them out and for some reason I keep hitting front bump of the front slide. This never happened before in 18 months of use. When I examine the slides and put them side by side on a level surface they don't line up with eachother. See images attached. One of the bungees also looks slack when I put the weight of the erg on them. When I sit on the erg it doesn't seem to return to centre, hence why I keep hitting the front.

I have been storing the slides stood up on their ends, I'm wondering if this has stretched the cord during storage as the slide goes to the bottom of the slide when stored like this so one end of the bungee is stretched and one is slack. However, I didn't see any instructions for storage in the manual.

I have posted some images of the issue here

https://www.reddit.com/r/concept2/comme ... urce=share

I have check the distance between the slides to be exactly 47cm and used a spirit level to check they are exactly level.

I have to say I didn't do lots of mileage on the slides, I mostly use the erg on its own.

- Should I try tightening them?
- Should the slides line up with eachother when put next to eachother?
- I also measured the position of the slide one each, they were not centred, should they be?

Try adjusting the cords so that, with and without the erg, they are all under slight tension and bring both slides back to center when moved. Check the slide rollers for free movement both with and without the erg and also with you aboard.

Thanks! I will try. I've ordered some new cords since they were cheap.

Do yours line up central and with each other?

My wheels run free as they can, I Oiled them as well for good measure. I couldnt see any visible obstructions.

I keep hitting front bump of the front slide.
Provided the bungees are adjusted properly, that happens because the slide is not level.
Each slide needs to be level, but they don't have to be the same level as each other.

Yeah but my slides are very level. See the images I posted on the reddit link in the OP. To be honest even if I put them indoors they would be slightly off level by a degree, nowhere is perfectly flat. I don't accept the product won't function if its not perfectly level.

Also, your sentence doesn't make sense to me... They need to be level, but not level with eachother, that's a self contradicting statement. If either is level in isolation then both we will be level with eachother.

Not sure we're talking the same language here? Do you mean level as if I put a spirit level on them there is no tilt?

Did the issue get rectified with the new bungee cords? How did this turn out for you?

My slides have to be level side-to-side and front-to-back and parallel with one another so that I don’t bump ends. Once level, it takes a very incorrect stroke to bump ends.
