Hi - I'm new to indoor rowing having acquired a Model D 8 days ago. Have put about 50k meters on so far and the workout is great. However, I can feel/hear a slight stutter in the roller as the seat moves back and forth. I have checked the rollers and they seem fine -- I have also cleaned the track and rollers. This is by no means a major concern -- I wonder, however, if this is common and perhaps part of the "working in" process.

This is a brand new out of the box Model D - right? This is not uncommon in used rowers and usually worn rollers or bearings, or, a buildup of stainless dust on the seat roller that makes the contact portions of them black. Cleaning will clear this 99% of the time but you said you'd done that already.

Take a video of it and put it on YouTube so we can hear/see it. It's odd. Is it a sticky bearing seat hesitation type event only when changing directions, or, is it a lumpy roller type thing that you feel always moving in both directions?

Look down the rail and see if you can see a dent or dip from shipping damage in the rail that created a speed bump in the track. It would be nearly impossible to do this in shipping, but I have seen many gym Ergs with rail dents from having weight bars and equipment fall over or dropped accidentally on it. The rail is an aluminum I-beam with a stainless cap for wear. They are both replaceable if necessary.

It seems I was just being paranoid. After my post I received a private message telling me that even a little bit of dust can cause a stutter. As my rower was new, I was just wiping it down with a dry cloth after use. Now, I have cleaned more vigorously (with windex) and no more stutter.

Perhaps a happy consequence of this thread will be that other paranoid newbies will read and relax.
