Connection kit questions
I'd like to use the ErgData app with my new iphone but I have a few questions about the connection kit.
1) I have an iPhone 5s with the new smaller lightning plug, but the connection kit product picture shows the older iphone dock connector. Is there a kit or adapter available for newer iphones or do I have the buy the additional 30$ adapter from Apple?
2) If you don't have a kit for the new iphone adapters could I simply use the lightning cable that came with my iphone and just buy a usb type B adapter (the type on the pm4) to plug it into the PM4 instead of the kit cable? The usb adapter costs about 2$ versus 30$ for apple's lightning adapter.

Re: Connection kit questions
1. It's iPhone 4 only.
2. No, because it simply won't work.

Re: Connection kit questions
You can use ErgData with iPhone 5s.
I use ErgData and I have an iPhone 5s. ErgData will work fine with the 5s, but you will need to buy the Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter (online, or from any Apple shop) which adds another $30 to the cost, on top of the cost of the C2 cable that connects to the PM.
In answer to the second question, Citroen is correct. You can't get around paying Apple their pound of flesh for the adapter, and Concept 2 their pound of flesh for the ErgData connection cable. The proposed cheaper solution you describe won't work.

Re: Connection kit questions
You can buy fully functional generic 30 pin to lightning adapters on Ebay for about $5. No need to spend $30 for a genuine Apple version.

Re: Connection kit questions
will a USB type A female to USB type B male adapter like this allow me to use the usual USB to lightning charger cable to attach my iphone 5s to the erg for Ergdata app?
This is a lot cheaper than the $35 concept 2 cable plus the $30 30 pin to lightning adapter.

Re: Connection kit questions
The requirements for using an iOS device with a Lightning connector are on our web site:
- iConnectConcept2 cable
- Genuine Apple 30 pin to lightning.
I have personally tried a mulitude of other generic adapters and although they may be labeled as would the Apple ones, may work as a SYNC or charging adapter, none of them have worked with the iConnectConcept2 cable. Why? Because they don't have the circuit that Apple puts in them to enable the right data lines.
Please understand that the iConnectConcept2 product is not an 'expensive wire', crack one open and you'll find circuitry and other items necessary to make an iPhone connection. For more details, sign up for Apple's MFI program.
I do have good news for Apple iPhone 4S and above owners: Bluetooth Smart connection to PM5's is coming. In fact, I'm accepting some beta testers right now (must be iOS 8 and PM5 user).

Re: Connection kit questions
So any idea when we will be in a position to be able to connect iPhones to the PM5? And is it just iPhones or will it work for iPod nano and/or iPad?c2scott wrote:

I agree with your comment on generic adaptors from eBay etc. I had two disasters before I gave in and bought the Apple version.
Re: Connection kit questions
Will it be possible to use ErgData without the connection kit ? Support for apps like ismoothrun would also be great! Is the PM5 communicating with Garmin FR610 as the PM4 is ?
Re: Connection kit questions
Yes in the future the PM5 will connect to ErgData on your iPhone (4s and above) using Bluetooth smart.LD_row wrote:Will it be possible to use ErgData without the connection kit ?
