Model D noise killing me.

Post by Mantella » August 5th, 2020, 9:48 am

Here is a link to the noise:

Anybody else experienced it?

It's work on the chain return, sounds like sawing. It's really preventing me from rowing, I have to wear ear defenders as it is.

Can anyone identify the cause of the noise?

Coming from the top end.

I've replaced the chain idler pulley, R8 bearing to no avail.

Thanks, any help appreciated.

Stuffed chain and/or chain sprocket and or seized chain guide pulley or the chain is catching the plastic under tray in the frame.

Really shouldn't be that hard to find. Sounds chain related.

The new chain guide pully is soft the old ones are hard nylon. They also seize on the shaft and the chain rubs round them instead of them rotating.

I'm thinking it's the axle/Sprocket. The chain is fine, no stiff links, and nothing is rubbing against the plastic. I'll take a look at the chain guid pulley thanks.

Well, I'd already replaced the chain idler pulleys, so, the next step is replacing the axle, sprocket and chain.
