Looking for a better seat

Post by hooge789 » March 31st, 2020, 5:35 am

Hello,

I am looking for a more comfortable seat for my concept2 indoor rower. On water rowing boats have seats with wholes. Do such seats exist for Conncept2 indoor rowers? Might be from a different brand?
Doing a lot of cycling I know that finding a good saddle is difficult. Probably same for a seat. From my point of view a cushion is only a work around. The comfort should come from the seat itself.

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks.
Thomas

The rower seat is the same as a bike seat you need to clock up some decent meters before your botty bum stops hurting.

The newer gray seat of the later model d rower is definitely softer than the black seat of the older model c.

The only way I've seen to get the seat to be more like a rowing shell seat - with the cutouts for sit bones and tailbone - is with a pad. It doesn't have to be thick and cushy, just thick enough to allow the depressions to relieve the pressure on those three hard spots. C2 sells such a pad, but even a yoga mat cut up to fit will probably work.

EndureRow. Pricey but Comfy.

I have the EndureRow and like it. I've still added padding to it as I didn't find it had much give. (foam seems similar in density to the stock Model D, grey seat, just with different contouring)

My suggestion: start with two Concept2 foam seat pads and a can of 3M Super77 spray glue. Stick the foam pads together, poking out the cut-outs.
Try that first. It might be all you need and I might have skipped the EndureRow had I tried that first.

If the state of the world is making it impossible to order anything, you can scavenge a foam yoga or camping mat, cutting a pattern to match the C2 foam pad, and double, even quadruple layer, depending on how thick the pad was to start.

Thomas,

Before you do anything drastic, try the C2 foam pad (or something similar) for a while. As was pointed out above, it does take a while to become accustomed to the C2 erg's seat, but overall, they're pretty good, and not that hard to get used to.

Good Luck

I enjoy the seatpad from hornet watersports, really comfy!

I found Concept 2's thin foam pad accessory (with holes) a good solution for my daily rows up to one hour. I add the "Hornet Watersports Anti Slip Rowing Machine Cushion High Performance Designed for Concept 2" cushion from Amazon for longer rows. It stays in place, is reasonably priced, and doesn't get too hot or feel like you're not well-planted.
