Wanted: Concept2 PM3 or later monitor

I recently acquired an old Concept2 Model B rowing machine, and the PM1 monitor screen is gradually failing (the top half of the top row of digits is hard to read. I'm not quite ready to shell out $180 for a new PM5, especially considering the cost of the PM5 is more than the model B is worth so I'm hoping to find a used PM3 or PM4 for a reasonable price.

Anyone recently upgrade to the PM5, and have an old PM3 or PM4 you don't need anymore?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have a used monitor to sell you but I do have a suggestion.

I too own a model B - I bought it used some 23 years ago.

When the monitor on my model B begins to fade as you describe with yours I found the solution is simply to install new fresh batteries.

The screen comes back to life. It doesn't exactly light up like a Christmas tree - it never did - but you can read and view it properly. Give it a try. It could make a big difference 'til you find the part you want.

The batteries are brand new - I replaced them after purchasing the rower. Top portions of the screen started dimming after just a week or two of use, and the rest of the screen is fine, so I don't think it's a battery issue.

Before I replaced the batteries, I also followed the instructions in https://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/m ... sembly.pdf - there were absolutely no signs of corrosion anywhere on the battery terminals or board, so it shouldn't be anything related to that. I may try disassembly/cleaning/reassembly again to see if that fixes the problem.

At either rate, the PM1 is also limited in functionality that I'm hoping a PM3 or PM4 would address. For example, when I finish a piece the screen only shows the pace for the last stroke, and there's no easy way to see my average for the piece. It also doesn't seem like I can setup intervals of distance mixed with rest time (intervals of 500M, with 1 minute recovery, etc).

Did you use silver oxide and not alkaline batteries ?

Did you reset it as per the label on the side of it ?

Silver oxide batteries give a way better screen contrast and for longer due to their Voltage discharge characteristics and higher initial Voltage.

I just upgraded a pm3 to a pm5 and the pm3 is available. I upgraded to get the bluetooth functionality so the PM3 is functionally sound. Let me know.

Both you and the OP need to tell folks where in the world you're located as shipping a PM3 from Timbuktu to Christchurch may be prohibitively expensive.

Isn't my location shown in the right rail, next to my posts?
