I have been away from erg for just over 4 weeks due to last PC going on fire and having to buy in new parts for a new build .

tried getting back into erg a moment ago , and opened the ergdata app , turned on the PM5 went into options and turned on wireless,
the app asked me to please connect PM.
when i got into the app settings to turn on the connection it continually scans for a connection , and never finds anything to connect to .

The phone its self can see the PM5 monitor so there is a link .

i did notice a few days ago my app updated to version 1.64 on Android .
i have never touched the PM5 for Firmware updates , am i needing to update the PM5 firmware for it to connect to the new updated ergdata app ?

Firmware on PM5 and app updates on phone should be your solution. It seems that the app has outpaced the firmware on your PM5.

Updating is very easy and takes only a few minutes with a PC or Mac.

no luck , updated the PM to latest firmware 163 , hardware version is 633.
ergdata app is 1.64

the phone it's self is able to see the PM with no issues , but when i open the erg app it just spins the searching circle , never able to find the PM5

Sounds similar to my issue a couple weeks ago when setting it up.

If you are in ErgData app and go to settings > BLUETOOTH > PM5 and select that option, do you see the PM5 appear under "PM5 Devices - Tap to select/disconnect" or are you just seeing your phone's BT recognizing the PM5?

My problem correction was not attempting to get my phone to link but allow the app to do it by tapping to select. Also, on the PM5 itself, are you selecting >More Options > Turn Wireless ON? That was a necessary step for the connection and then it just started functioning and connecting to phone on its own thru the app itself.

i had been using the app with no issues for a couple of months .
its just coming back to the new "" update "" app ,

it does not matter what i try , i click on ergdata app as usual , click on the cog and click on connect to bluetooth and just get a green circle searching for PM and it wont ever see anything . i left it running for over an hour and it never once picks up the PM5 at all.

even if i go into the PM5 and more options and turn on bluetooth still no connection .
if i close the ergdata and just open the phones bluetooth it instantly shows the PM5 with no issues .
the actual app fails to find the PM5 .

i just looked for a cable to hook up my phone to the usb b port on the PM and none of the stores around me sell any . so will need to order from Amazon

What firmware version is your PM5 running. You need to upgrade to V27 (or V163 for the PM5A) to support the latest versions of Ergdata on your phone.

I initially paired my phone with the PM5. It wouldn't work with ErgData at that time no matter what I tried. At some point during a trial and error, I unpaired it I just experimented with the app only and suddenly the app was connected and totally functional. This was all right before and then again the very day they released the new version.

I just experimented with mine right this minute by launching ErgData, starting my PM5 and letting it link up all on its own. For the first time since its been working, I went and looked at the phone's Bluetooth connections settings where all my other usual BT devices are listed and nowhere do I see the PM5 listed although it's connected to my app and functioning. So, with that, you might go in and unpair your phone from the PM5 and work exclusively through the app and see what happens. Maybe you're already there but I thought I'd throw this out there. It seems as though the app runs via BT in the background and in my case, but when I specified its pairing as you would with most devices, it wouldn't work. Odd stuff.

Send an email to rowing@concept2.com with details of your phone, your ergdata version & your PM5 firmware version. I don't think we can resolve this on here.

I was getting some weird stuff from PM5s with V22 with current ergdata last night. I went round and paired my android phone with each of the six PM5s and rowed 300m on each. That was mainly to set the clocks to winter time.

I may end up taking a laptop in or a USB stick to get them to V27.

hmmm ok well this is confusing LOL..

went to open the erg app as usual and this time it pops up with this app needs to access to your location please allow access in your settings .
i clicked on settings and click allow high accuracy, go back to the app home page , clicked on scan for PM and it had already connected the PM5 and was ready to start workout lol...................

so something must have got a little mixed up some where along the lines and sorted its self out as the app never asked for my location before now, but hey it seems to be working now , so lets hope it stays that way when i jump on for erging this evening.

thanks for the help / advice we got there in the end lol.
