Is Polar H10 compatible with PM5?

Post by Lexmint » March 14th, 2018, 3:29 am

Is Polar H10 compatible with PM5? I only heard about compatibility of H7 with PM5 but not the H10. And can I use this HR-meter both with PM5 and iPhone at the same time?

The Polar H10 connects to the PM5 using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) feature

Bluetooth BLE can only connect to one device at a time, so my understanding is that you can only connect to one or the other (PM5 or iPhone).

I use the Wahoo TICKR which supports both BLE and ANT+ protocols. I connect to the PM5 using ANT+ and my Polar v800 using the BLE connection simultaneously. So i assume that you can do the same with the PM5 (ANT+) and BLE (iPhone).

I'm using H10. It connects well. As well as an iPhone (simultaneously).

So, a combination of Polar H10, iPhone (ergdata app), PM5 - works very good.

I cannot get the H10 to work with either the PM5 / Ergdata or the NK SpeedCoach and simultaneously connect to the Polar Beat app on the iPhone. It will connect with the iPhone by itself or the Speedcoach by itself or the PM5 but itself. But I cannot simultaneously record heart rate data in Polar Beat while connected to the PM5 or SpeedCoach at the same time. Is there some configuration necessary to do this? Or a specific sequence in pairing the apps?

Be sure your H10 is running the latest firmware. The earlier posts in this thread are outdated. The H10 now supports simultaneous ANT+ and two BLE connections, but you have to be running the latest firmware and have those options enabled by using Polar Beat app.

You can also set the H10 to store the workout on the belt and then download it to the app post workout. That leaves the BT connection clear to speak to the PM5/Ergdata. I've had this setup working successfully on my Android phone.

I've not then tried to BT my headphones at the same time for music but tend to watch stuff on the Ipad in most rowing scenarios.

The Polar H10 is compatible - I use it daily.

Instructions for firmware update: https://support.polar.com/ca-en/support ... _polar_h10
If it doesn't update, check to see if you've got the latest version already. You may have to install both Polar Beat and Polar Flow apps and log in to your Polar Account on both apps before it checks.

Edit the settings for the H10 in the app and ensure ANT+ and BTLE transmission (and 5kHz if you like) are all enabled.

The H10 has two BTLE channels so you can connect via BT to two devices at once, and broadcast over ANT+ and Polar 5kHz to unlimited other devices. I find ANT+ more reliable as it isn't depending on pairing - it "transmits in the blind" and receiving devices just have to be told to listen for a particular sender. (via their ANT+ ID)
