Probably...but the PM5 has no charging functionality so the batteries would wear out just like non-rechargeable ones do.

I've used rechargeable batteries but I find they don't last as long as the standard alkalines and they take quite a long time to recharge so I am switching back. Top brand D Size are available in multipacks from Amazon (UK) for around a £1 per battery. My last set lasted for around 3 months of rowing 5k an average of 5 days a week so the cost is minimal.

NiMH batteries have a lower voltage than alkaline. In any case you'd have to take them out to recharge, so there would be little point even if the voltage were sufficient.

My PM5 seems to have charge functionality. Never changed the batteries yet, and bought the machine used 16 months ago. Done about 1.9 million meters in that time.

Couple days ago the battery reading was 72%!!! Done a 10k yesterday and checked battery level afterwards and it's back up to 80%.

The charge in an alkaline battery is very much dependent on ambient temperature. There's also the power generation feature on PM4 / PM5 that's there to reduce the load on the battery when the flywheel is moving.

Concept2 experimented with rechargeable battery packs with PM4 but the results were clearly less than optimal.

Hi for all, thank you for the answers, for 10 days I am trying the amazon basic AA rechargeable batteries with the torch adapters I had at home, we see how long they last ...

Just put in a set of D Energizer or Duracell batteries and they should last 18 months.

Cheap batteries are a false economy, but they do keep me in a job as they leak and stuff up your monitor.

I still use a set of Duracel D Alkalines on my test bench, they have a best before install date of 2005 and they still have 52% capacity and show no signs of leaking.

I bought the C2 in February 2017 and the Duracell inside have lasted 7 months, (ok with pen usb inserted, now off) but I do not make a reason for money, but in principle, the batteries pollute.
