How do I downgrade this to release version then?

As above you need the firmware file and the update utility on your desktop, then simply drag the firmware file on top of the utility icon.
A bit of a strange way of doing things, perhaps legacy versions as an option from within the utility would be more intuitive but 99.9% of the time your only going one way and that is to the latest version.

OK seems I had to use USB cable in order to downgrade.
