PM3 LCD Just went crazy

Post by Alfie2 » April 10th, 2017, 4:17 pm

So my PM3 just went nuts and started doing this:

Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

Disassemble it. Re-seat the ribbon cable in the connector on the main board, reassemble and test.

Did that a couple of times. Tested and still nothing. In fact now the LCD doesn't do anything.
I'm guessing this PM3 might be dead.

Have you tried a new set of batteries? Have you tried powering it through the USB-B connector?

I've tried both and still nothing.
When I connect the PM3 to a windows box, It detects a USB device, but doesn't know what it is.
The C2 utility doesn't see it either.

You're either going to have to work with the folks at C2 in VT to resurrect that or stick a hand in a pocket, pull out $180 and stump up for a PM5.

I know which option I'd choose and it ain't the repair.

Whats the serial number off the back of it ?

If it starts with a 1, 2 or 3 is an older version of the PM3. If its a 4 then its the new version.

It could be as old at 2003-2004 so its probably time for a new monitor.

If your in the UK, there is a guy that advertises on E-Bay over there by the name of Simon Gisborne who repairs them.If your in the USA then a new PM5 is cheap, time for a new monitor.

The early versions of PM3 have now had their day in terms of really reliable service life.

According to the OP's IP address he is in the USA, hence my suggestion to spend $180 for a new PM5.

The serial is 200048852 so it's definitely an older one.

Thanks for all your help. It is much appreciated.
