Model D squeak

Post by hiramcarter » January 2nd, 2013, 8:56 pm

Hi Everyone, I'm a new owner of a Model D, I've had it set up for about 2 weeks and have used it about 10 times for about 2 1/2 hrs - just getting started. Tonight it seems to have developed a squeak as the chain is winding up, it sounds like a plastic squeak. I tried oiling the chain but to no effect. I really like the machine so far but I can imagine the squeak becoming very annoying. Any ideas? mj

How old is the machine?
How many millions of metres has it done?

Sorry I wasn't clear. It's brand new and has .013752 million meters. And, of course, it may have fixed itself. It was squeaking on the recovery only yesterday, and then today it squeaked a bit on the catch and the recovery for about 5 mins and then it stopped squeaking. It's a very cool machine and I'm having a lot of fun using it. Of course, for now, I'm just getting used to it and figuring out how it works. But, so far, so good. Cheers, mj

When you get a squeak sound coming up to the catch, normally that is coming off the connection of the rail to the cage head underneath where the the black flip cover connects. It is a plastic on plastic rub point that will flex ever so slightly when coming up to the catch and can make that sound.

I've used a tiny amount of teflon spray the nose of the rail end if it is persistent, but normally it will self-correct with use.
