Hi all,
I have a hand injury that prevents me from pulling on things. I was wondering if there is some kind of strap that goes around the wrist and attaches to the oar/handle so that 100% of the load is taken off the grip so I can continue training.
I am looking for a product I can buy or any kind of DIY plans. I have tried weight lifting straps that wrap around the handle but they eventually become loose causing me to stop and retighten, and they don't take 100% of the load. I am about to try and tie something up out of spare webbing, but I thought maybe there was a better solution.
Thanks

Re: Hooks or straps for grip?
I used APT weight lifting hooks for about two weeks after carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery left arm last February. Some finger strength and function is necessary to hook the fingers atop the hooks to control their position on the handle. Impossible to recommend them without reservation but they allowed me to row while the tendons in my wrist healed.

is it one hand or both?
could you wrap your bad hand around the handle and then wrap some boxing wraps around your whole hand and the handle?

thanks jackarabit, those look exactly how i imagined they might. i just have to keep load off my ring finger DIP joint. i have full range of motion and dexterity. looks like they are worth a shot.
boxing wraps arent a bad idea either...

Drachma, in the event you go with lifting hooks, you have a choice of forward, reverse, or convertible. I got the forward (hooks over handle). The fwd/reverse convertible style might be a better investment if you contemplate also using these for lifting. One thing I am sure of is that you want a "handed" or mirror image design such as APT's. The cheaper designs place the strap buckle on same side on both, which means a buckle bearing on the inboard side of the wrist on one hand or the other. Believe me you will want the buckle to the outside on BOTH wrists. If there is chaff or discomfort from the atrap, cut the top off a heavy winter or hunting sock (best if unribbed), double it and use as a saddle blanket under the strap and buckle.
