resell value of C2 rower
resell value of C2 rower
I have been contemplating buying a C2 rower for two months for home use. I am a runner very new to rowing and don't have easy access to any rowing machine, let alone a C2. I see a lot of potential benefits for buying one but fear it will become like my Wii, something we don't use much. Because I am new to rowing, I have yet to see if it will help or hinder my running, and I don't think I can determine this if I don't have more regular access to one than I currently have. If I were to buy a new C2 rower, hypothetically, what would you all be willing to pay for a one year-old gently used rower? I suspect they hold there value well because they are fairly simple machines. Thoughts?

I would buy second hand, thats what I did, sold for a profit 5 years later.

Re: resell value of C2 rower
I don't know about the area you live, but round here I keep checking for used C2's. A brand new one will cost around $1150CAD (with taxes, S&H, brokerage) from the manufacturer, and I've seen used Model D's going for no less than $1000. Used Model C's are selling for $700-900. I got mine for $700, and it's at last ten years old, likely older, but it still butter smooth. These machines do hold their value well, but again, depends on where you live. Very little can go wrong with them, and even if it does, the parts are cheap.

Flo - I am in the same situation as you. Runner who wanted to switch things up, but worried about the investment. It appears that most Model D's sell for ~$750 in the U.S, and Model C's for not much less. Considering these rowers often sold for the same amount a few years back, I think it's safe to say that your rower will maintain its value as long as you keep it for at least a few years.

Re: resell value of C2 rower
I just bought a Model C for $375 on Craigslist. It is probably a 90s model (with the original PM1), but the monitor still works and everything is mechanically sound.
Re: resell value of C2 rower
Unfortunately (fortunately for the buyers) people let ergs turn into clothes racks just like the treadmills, etc. so finding one with low mileage is just a matter of looking around, as suggested. I got my model C for $200 from a neighbor - I had borrowed it in the past for Holiday Challenges with my kid, but knew it was collecting dust (and paint spatter as it turned out). A little elbow grease and I've got a "new" machine. However, even new the C2 Model D is a tremendous bargain compared to those treadmills, etc.

Purchased a Concept 2 Model B back in the '80's for $300.00. Finally wore it out and now in the process of rebuilding it of which Concept 2 has all the required parts. Pretty Cool! I have since purchased a Concept 2 Model D for $500.00...what a deal! I've been a runner, biker, swimmer, kayaker, and now a rower. The Concept 2 works great for training before I take out my Maas 24. GChemist

If you have the money and are looking to buy a erg and use it for a very long time then i would reccomend just buying a new one straight from C2.It may cost a little more but if you plan on using it for a long time the investment is worth it.These machines as long as you maintain them which is quite easy and timeless.Upgrading is simple to and new parts are cheap as well. However if price is a major concern for you any used erg is probaly in excellent shape. Try local boat clubs and local schools they usually upgrade and sell the old ones, they may have a lot of mileage but there usually in very good shape. Also you can just pick it up and theres no shipping as well as you can row on the erg before you buy it.

Re: resell value of C2 rower
I tried to buy a used one several years ago. I looked on ebay and craigslist for a few months. The local machines went for new or more than new prices (covering shipping). Once someone put on up for cheap, but it was gone minutes after the post. You might get lucky and find a low priced used one, but at least in the Northeast, they really hold their value.
