Maybe you were then intoxicated by the adrenalin of the gambling table.

Re: Difficult to Row
Seems odd to me that you struggle to row 2000m on your machine even with coaching and yet you were able to row 2000m on the hotel machine with ease. What makes your machine so difficult? Did your online coach have any insight?MHSMD wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2023, 3:19 amThanks to all for your helpful insight into my issue. Had my C2 serviced - the tech’s perspective was similar. Mostly, that I’m out of shape and need to build up slowly toward substantial distances.
Regarding which hotel has 3 C2’s - The gym at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas.

Re: Difficult to Row
This great hotel I stayed at in Utah had 3 rowergs overlooking the pool and beautiful mountains. The machines were clean and in great shape, but the firmware had never been updated! The manager let me update them while I was there.

Re: Difficult to Row
Why should firmware be renewed? If the erg's original firmware functions properly when the machine is new, how could it get wrong over time?
The only reason for renewal I can see is in combinations with the ErgData app. But if you get your information from the PM display, firmware updates should be irrelevant.

Re: Difficult to Row
The gym did not care about the 7 year old firmware which is why it was never updated. I was rowing on these machines and wanted to connect with ergdata which required the latest firmware.Nomath wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2023, 4:58 pmWhy should firmware be renewed? Bug fixes, at a minimum, are why you update firmware and keep things current. The PM5 has bugs. PM5 Bluetooth support from 7 years ago was fixed up in several firmware releases. If nothing else, more reliable bluetooth is a benefit of the firmware update that was done.Nomath wrote: ↑March 2nd, 2023, 4:58 pmWhy should firmware be renewed? Updating your phone, laptop, smartwatch and anything you use to store/transport your data is much more critical. New exploits appear every day and are not announced until they are patched. Some exploits like the spectre/meltdown family of exploits which let anyone take over any PC from any web page required major firmware and substantial operating system rewrites and took over a year to deploy. You really want those fixes installed asap. Most of the ransomware attacks use exploits that are fixed, but the fixes are not installed.
FWIW one of the major corporate penetrations was by exploiting a weakness in a wifi thermostat. The thermostat was installed on a network inside the corporate firewall in a trusted zone. Once the thermostat was breached the intruders had their pick of server machine to inspect for old code loads and to compare to their list of vulnerabilities. Keeping smart devices firmware current is best practice.
Re: Difficult to Row
My comment was aiming at the issue raised by the topic poster: the perceived effort on his own erg (model E, several years old) versus the perceived effort on 3 ergs in a hotel gym. The original firmware will display the proper performance data on the original PM. So if firmware has not been renewed for many years, this is not a reason to doubt the outcomes.
The arguments for firmware updates that you mention are related to export of these data.
