The new bungee arrived and I got it installed fairly quickly - less than an hour without rushing anything. There are a couple of tricky bits which I recorded in the video, so that if I have to do it again, I'll know what to do.

The failure mode is odd, but quite benign. I suspect it would just slowly lose tension over time. Even if it broke, nothing disasterous would happen. Unlike Elons Starship test rockets. SN11 didn't even reach the ground in one piece today

Thanks for posting your video, Rich. I bookmarked it for future reference. I noticed the braces on your wrists. Do you also have carpal tunnel in addition to you trigger finger syndrome?

Thanks... The braces are for Arthritis in the thumbs. The doc who gave me the steroid shot for trigger finger took xrays as well and confirmed the arthritis. Didn't give me a definitive answer for the stiff fingers, but I suspect it's just me.
He did other tests and I don't have carpal tunnel... yet!!!

I'm a bit late coming to this but my youngest son got a brand new erg back in May 2020 and had exactly the same issue, got a replacement white cord that went the same way. I replaced the shock cord on my ergo with a white cord and had exactly the same problem. I've now replaced it with a green shock cord so I'll see how that goes. IMO it's definitely an issue with the white shock cords.
