Great news. There is a lot to learn and perfect, so stay patient and read / watch as much as you can

Re: Used Model B worth it?
Hard to believe but I bought a new Model B in 1986 and, after two overhauls over the years, is still in regular use by yours truly. On the last refresh I added the PM-5 and it's awesome. In fact, did 6500 meters this morning on it. Mine isn't for sale but, having rowed on the excellent C and D models, I prefer my rude and crude model B. Probably because I'm at least crude if not rude..
Re: Used Model B worth it?
Did you mount the PM5 where the PM1 was mounted on these B's? I have a used B that I bought off eBay over 13 years ago. The PM1 is still going strong, as is the rest of the machine; just needs to be used more often and consistently. I'm thinking of buying it a PM5 for Xmas this year, and would want to get it mounted where is sits higher than the stock PM1 location is.
Re: Used Model B worth it?
The PM5 fits in roughly the same place on the model B, maybe a little higher but still on the cage, https://www.concept2.com/files/pdf/us/m ... lace_B.pdf.
I have a model B and built an extension arm out of wood so I could reach the monitor more easily. Home fix, but effective. It wasn't too hard, and I've seen other forum members with the same solution. Depends on how handy you are, I guess.

Re: Used Model B worth it?
I was lucky enough to be given a 2001 model C in March. It’s only done 1100 km. Was thinking of getting the PM5. The current pm2 works but the buttons are a bit hit and miss. I’d like to have the BT connectivity etc. I’m too lazy to log stuff manually! ;o)Just bought a rusty Model B for $60. Disassembled it and brought it back to life. Pm2 wasn’t working so I bought a PM5. Happy with the result. I saw the Model B on EBay or `Facebook in the Chicago area and thought wauw I can make some money now.
Some interesting stories there. I rowed on B’s before and remember them being good. Long time ago though. My C is smooth and reasonably quiet.
Re: Used Model B worth it?
I see this thread has legs! As for me I love my Model D and am gradually getting my technique down. I know now that for the 4-5 years I was rowing short distances at my gym, I was mostly working torso and arms, not nearly enough with my legs, so changing that has taken work.
We were recently away from home looking after my wife's elderly parents and as we had an AirBnB I tried to find a good deal locally on a rower, thinking maybe I could bring it home and sell it to at least break even. Had a nice email chat with a lady selling a Model C, very reasonably priced and thoroughly described, but that was too far a drive away.
idk what happened with the B I originally posted about, but doubt the seller go anywhere near what he expected.

The Model B is obsolete, don't buy one.
The biggest improvements Concept 2 ever made was going from the B to the C, its just been small refinements since the Model C. With a quiet kit and a new handle you can turn your Model C into a Model D and then blindfolded you couldn't tell the difference rowing on the C compared to a D.
The biggest change was the fully variable damper on the Model C, totally different rower.

Re: Used Model B worth it?
I have a C, not a B, but I bet the users of B's (and they are still some out there) would tell you that if the price it right and you want to just try it out, then a B is fine.
As long as you know what's you're getting and set your expectations accordingly.

Re: Used Model B worth it?
Might be fine if you already have a Model B and have been using it for years but if I was looking at getting a rower then a Model B would not be on my list. I'm starting to see Model C's and Model D's in a big enough mess as it is.
Essentially if your not a mechanically minded person who can do repair work then I would steer clear of a second hand rower full stop. Seriously some people don't even own a screwdriver and if this is you then your best option is a BRAND NEW rower that just requires a wipe down with a damp cloth and bit of chain lube now and again.
I see it time and time again, people don't want to spend the money but are clueless on how to fix things, its a REALLY bad combination.

I get what you're saying, Carl, and you're right. If it's a matter of $$, but you have no mechanical skills and an A or B comes up for cheap, you'd better be sure it's already in good shape before you spend. Kind of like buying either a used car or trying to get into a classic vehicle on the cheap; it usually gets you upside down in it pretty quick, though a rower is not going to get someone as bad as a vehicle could. But, if they can't get it going, it will sit there and rust or go to the dump and their $$ is gone.
I bought my B about 12 or 13 years ago off eBay. It was not in great shape, but it didn't take a lot of $$ or time to straighten it out, and I can do some repair work.
After an extended absence, I've let my fitness get poor and picked up hypertension, to boot. Started on the B again this summer, and slowly working on both with it and some limited weight lifting. Today, I finally did the cage-wrap mod to the B, and what a difference THAT made. Will take some getting used to. Seriously considering upgrading to the PM5, even though the PM1 on this B is still going strong.

Re: Used Model B worth it?
I got a used Model B (for more than $60, but less than 600) earlier this year, but it didn’t come with a monitor. I finally scored a PM3 but the pickup doesn’t seem to be working. I followed the trouble shooting on C2’s website but they only option left is a new pickup and wire set. Did you have any issues plugging your PM5 into the old gear?
