fixing factory defect in Model D

Post by thomasan » September 27th, 2007, 4:21 pm

In fixing the factory defect in the recent Model D's, I've noticed that when connecting the rower, it is very tight. I have limited space, so I have to connect and disconnect the rower frequently. Does anyone have a similar experience? I'm pretty sure I installed those plates correctly. There is some minor metal chipping of the plates.

I had the same problem after installing the reinforcement plates on my model D rower. Concept2's folks are aware of the problem, and have modified the plastic piece for the bottom side of the seat rail. The replacement piece is narrower and fits better between the foot stretchers. As a result, the seat rail and the front half of the rower lock together (and separate) more easily.

Concept2 will send the modified plastic piece for free via 2nd day mail if you alert them to your situation.

I had the same problem. Luckily I haven't needed to take mine apart since I finally got the locking mechanism to engage.

Thanks harrier I'll get the upgrade.

p.s. before I bought my Model D I had called C2 and ascertained that it was one that needed the strengthening plates. Even before I owned it or had picked it up C2 had shipped me the plate kit. Excellent company every time I've dealt with them.

If they are that great why didn't they fit the plate for you as they knew about the problem before you bought it?

That's a good point as C2 knew of the issue before I purchased a new model D.

After installing the retrofit, the connection on mine is tight but still goes together. However, there is still considerable play in the center while rowing. It would be good if C2 did a redesign of the center so there is more stability and less movement.

A good look at my hypothetical modelJ would be useful.

Whoaaa there!
I bought it used, from a guy here in Niagara Falls. The seller wasn't aware of the problem; I knew of it because of one of the threads here. When I went to look at it I took the serial number down, phoned C2 the next day, they confirmed it was one of the affected machines and put the repair kit in the mail to me that day....before I had gone back to the sellor and purchased the machine.
