Intermittent squeaking from flywheel assembly?

Post by macterrell » January 13th, 2007, 7:08 pm

Hello -- I have recently started experiencing some squeaking noises when I row more than 5,000 - 6,000 meters. It sounds like it is coming from the flywheel assembly/enclosure, and it only occurs at the very end of the drive when I complete the pull with my arms. I never hear it during the first 5,000 or so meters that I row, and it doesn't happen on every stroke. I lubricated the chain, but that didn't seem to eradicate the problem. I checked the troubleshooting area for the Model C, as well as the assembly manual and recommended maintenance page on the C2 site, but I can't seem to find anything that matches my problem.

Should I attempt to lubricate the axle for the flywheel or something?

My rower is a Model C. It is several years old, but has only recently been receiving regular use. I've put about 430,000 meters on it so far -- mostly since November 2006.

Any help or suggestions appreciated!

The squeaking that I get at the end of the stroke stops when I clean the rail, especially along the sides at the end. A very light lubrication also worked. I realize that you said that it sounds like it is coming from the flywheel, but sound sources are tricky to locate.

Thanks -- I'll give that a try tonight and see if it works. You're right; it can be very hard to determine the location of sounds like this, especially when you're on the seat and moving back & forth while rowing. I'll post again after I try your solution. Cheers!

I keep a couple drops of mineral oil on the railing.

Be sure the nuts and bolts are tight that hold the front and back legs to the feet and the erg.
