Attention - The sensor is Damaged message after Firmwire update

Post by elrafo » May 24th, 2025, 4:35 pm

Hello!

I have a Concept2 Rower from sept 2005 (just bought it)
I did the PM5 Firmware update (vo 459.01 - model 130. ) yesterday from my ErgData as suggested by the app...

The Firmware update was successful but since then, I have an error message each time I turn on the PM5 for the first rowing session: Attention - The sensor is Damaged (ground cable) please contact Concept2 for replacement...

Then, I disconnect my app, reconnect and push again just row and it works and tracks perfectly all my data...

I think it seems to be more of a bug since I can use the rower after reconnecting the PM5 to my ErgData after this error message.
Nevertheless, this is annoying, do you have any solutions for me ?

Should I reverse the update to the previous firmwire ?

thank you

Send an email to info@concept2.com and they'll look at your problem. C2 folks don't follow this forum.

C2 responds very quickly, but it's a holiday weekend in the USA.

Assume the message is accurate. If you get bored waiting for C2...

There is a wire that comes from a generator on the flywheel and reports flywheel spinning info AND carries power for the PM5. The wire plugs into the PM5. Try unplugging the wire and plugging it back in. If the rower is new to you it could have been snagged in transit and slightly pulled out. The plug looks like an audio plug -- see it in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r88ZYelSyc

If that doesn't fix it you can try removing the battery from the PM5 and rowing. After a few strokes the PM5 should boot up using power from this cable. If the PM5 does not power up something is wrong with the generator or the cable. Since you replace both as a unit likely you'll need a new generator, see above video. <If this is a new-to-you 20+ year old erg then it's also a good idea to see how old this battery is and replace before it leaks if it's old. So whether or not you do this test pull the battery>.

If Concept2 tells you to do something different (like hard reset the PM5) please post.

I think there may be a bug in the. PM5 firmware.

I updated in March 2025 and ever since, my HR monitors (2) drop in and out. Batteries replaced, resets, uninstall/reinstall, negative results
