[Concept2 Model D] Accidentally got flywheel nut stuck on axel without the flywheel on

Post by Rvnsom » December 24th, 2024, 6:53 am

I’ve been swapping out the chain, shock cord, axels since 2am because I couldn’t sleep and needed to get this done. I stored the flywheel axel nuts on the axel so I wouldn’t lose them. When I started to put it back together I tightened up the non-flywheel side and now I cannot get the flywheel nut loose. Only the opposite side loosens. Am I going to have to buy ANOTHER axel and set of nuts or is my lack of sleep preventing me from seeing an obvious solution?!

Thanks!

Merry Christmas! Get some sleep before Santa arrives with your new RowErg.

If that stuck nylock nut is just hand tight, then I would wrap a rag around the axle and grip it with a channel lock plyers just hard enough to get the nut off.

If it's too tight and you don't want to risk damaging the axle, then on the other end screw two regular nuts on and tighten them against each other. That will allow you to get the nylock off the stuck side, then you can loosen the two regular nuts and take them off easily.
