Chain not catching/engaging

Hi, I have a model D rower and when I pull the chain there it is not catching on anything and is just coming out with no resistance at all. It will maybe catch the very odd time but I next to never. From reading up on YouTube etc it seems like it may be the clutch/clutch bearing.

I just want to check if.anyone has a definitive answer before I try to repair, I also notice this part does not.seem to be available on concepts website?

The clutch bearing in the wheel is a standard trade part that can be pulled out and replaced.

Could be it's dry (or cold, <10-12C, 50F), in which case oil might help; it has on my 20 year C.

It's also worth mentioning that not all the parts that C2 sell are available on the website. It pays to email them and ask, they don't bite. Really.

Concept 2 sells flywheel replacement, althought it is not listed in their online store. A couple of years ago, it was $99.

I don't think they sell the clutch bearing, but if you search this forum you can find the part number and order it from a bearing supply place.

Note you need a press to remove and install it. You can make an ad hoc one with a nut, bolt, and pipe. Also see this forum. Whether you want to do this or not depends on how much you value money, time, and a challenge/adventure. Changing the flywheel is dead easy.

The one-way clutch bearing probably just needs some oil. A lightweight oil, not grease, on those little fins will suffice.

I recommend you rinse with mineral spirits, spin it a bit, and dry thouroughly, before oiling.

Can anyone recommend a clutch bearing removal tool please? I have broken my existing expansion type tool trying to remove the clutch, and I'd just like a recommendation before investing in a new one
