There are probably many readers of this thread who agree with me that the C2 seat is too hard and flat and should be redesigned, and also agree that the necessity to wear a special top to avoid getting caught in the machinery indicates a design flaw, but for fear of censure they make no comment opposing the ridiculous groupthink consensus that the RowErg is perfect in every way.Rowan McSheen wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2024, 9:32 amGents, this guy is known for his ability to start an argument in an empty room. Regarding the first part, sure, there will be some who agree and one can see that by how many try out several seat pads.Slidewinder wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2024, 10:01 amThere are probably many readers of this thread who agree with me that the C2 seat is too hard and flat and should be redesigned, and also agree that the necessity to wear a special top to avoid getting caught in the machinery indicates a design flaw, but for fear of censure they make no comment opposing the ridiculous groupthink consensus that the RowErg is perfect in every way.Rowan McSheen wrote: ↑October 3rd, 2024, 9:32 amGents, this guy is known for his ability to start an argument in an empty room. The second part with your shirt-problem is a joke. Never read of anyone, who had issues with a shirt caught by the seat rollers. And even if so, the person would either wear another shirt next time or try to fix that with putting the shirt into the trouser or whatever solution works. This is really NO problem. Obviously it is a big one for you, so be happy about your solution

Re: Best seat pad?
I too have fallen foul of my top getting caught in the rails. I row in my garage, so happy with no shirt on as I soon warm up, but will have to find a solution in time for the Indoors in December.
Back on topic though, in recent weeks, coinciding with a little bit of weight loss, I have started to explore options as I am getting uncomfortable after an hour or so. I've tried a folded towel, but once that is soaked with sweat, it has served its purpose. I also don't like the feeling of being sat a couple of cm higher, though I can't pinpoint why...
I used to feel like this cycling, though, my first 100 miles got pretty miserable, my tenth not so bad, my twentieth was as comfortable as 100+ miles will ever feel.

I think it might be due to the angle that it puts you on. When I needed something to sit on, I once raised it up too much and I found that I was quite often falling off the seat.

I think this is it, doesn't feel entirely natural and have to readjust. I liked the look of the pad Justin uses, it's just a thin silicone cover moulded to the seat shape, but doesn't look like it is available in the UK, shall try find a link...

All I used to use was a cut up yoga mat (three squares) in a pillow case. That might be a solution?

The alternative is to use the thicker padding, but raise your feet a bit!

Read Alex9026 who just posted, "I too have fallen foul of my top getting caught in the rails."
I'm guessing that Alex9026 shares my dislike for wearing a tight top, also knows that tucking in the tail of a loose top doesn't work. It quickly comes loose and gets caught under the seat roller.
Concept 2 has no incentive to fix this, or to fix the hard, flat seat problem. C2 sees as well as I that there is a pervasive belief among users that the RowErg is perfect in every way - a kind of mass hypnosis that prevents people from being aware of the RowErg's design defects, of which these are only two. Concept 2 administrators see this, then they yawn and say, no need to change a thing, let's all go back to sleep.

Well, as formerly a competitive duathlete I became quite accustomed to tight fitting clothing! But yes, tucking it in certainly doesn't resolve the issue...Slidewinder wrote: ↑October 4th, 2024, 9:07 amRead Alex9026 who just posted, "I too have fallen foul of my top getting caught in the rails."

Obviously, Alex made his freedom with it, as I never read about complaints from him before about that topic. Probably, it's not such a big deal, as it sounds like you have with that.
I can say, I'm very satisfied with the rowErg, given it's price/value ratio. Despite having no problem with seat comfort, handle geometry, seat roller shirt catching, I found another issue today, which could impact the life time of the frame of the monorail.
The way the frame is built and the stainless steel strip is attached, sweat is easily soaked under the strip and corrosion does it's work. I already knew this from Carl in this forum, but today I saw this at my own machine, when cleaning.

Re: Best seat pad?
Home Bargains or Primark for the pillow case and TK Maxx always have loads of cheap yoga mats.

Re: Best seat pad?
Interesting thread! When I first got my own erg and started putting in the km's started I did get a sore behind. I bought the C2 pad but never really got on with it and relegated it to the bottom of a drawer and never used anything since. My son however dug out the pad and uses it every time on the erg, and for the first time OTW a couple of weeks ago for the marathon row.
In the boats I use for OTW rowing, the seats have zero padding, mostly CF or wood if older, with cut outs. They are generally height adjustable although not easily on the fly. The foot stretchers likewise are height-adjustable and angle adjustable. If you have your own boat then you can fiddle and get it just right for you. I managed on the seat below for 4 hours a couple of weeks ago but was definitely ready to get off! Some OTW boat seats I find more comfortable than others but the designs seem to vary very little between manufacturers, and I have never seen any seat options other than maybe material or adjustability (and this is mostly for lightness on top end racing boats). So whether you are big small, male or female you just get what the boat comes with!

I'm biased with Home Bargsins. It's a Liverpool based business, that is probably nationwide now but not international. I was friends with the owner's daughter when I was younger
