Buying a used Model D
Buying a used Model D
Hey guys, I'm a newbie and I'm looking to buy a used model D. I found this one online and they're asking $200. The only problem is that the bearing supposedly needs to be replaced- the flywheel bearing. Apparently it randomly loses resistance. Is $200 still a good deal? Thanks for your input.
Re: Buying a used Model D
If the rower is otherwise in good condition (especially if it has a working monitor), $200 is a good price for a model D.
Clutch bearing replacement is a satisfying DIY job if you have access to a bearing press or can cobble up something equivalent with threaded rod or bolts, washers, nuts, etc. as others in the forum have.
But, having done this myself, I would recommend calling Concept 2 and buying a complete new flywheel. They don’t list these online but they are available. I was quoted around AUD150 for a Model C (after I’d done the work). Much less fuss and stress, not overly expensive and no downtime.

Anyway, if you need to remove the central hub from the flywheel to press the bearing out, remember to mark the screw holes so it remains balanced when reassembled.

Re: Buying a used Model D
So it's not broken, only needs oil. The bearings can be oiled after taking out the complete fy assembly, which only needs a screwdriver and a spanner for the nut on the flwheel shaft.randomly

I agree with Basil - if the PM is working properly and you're pretty handy with tools, then do it - it's a good deal even with the clutch issue (I'm guessing that's what "loses resistance" means). Otherwise I'd pass.
Also, as Basil mentioned, C2 is really good about supporting their products, and just about anything one would need to refurbish an erg is readily available.
Good Luck
