Which Concept2 rower is this?

Post by MChan » July 8th, 2024, 6:30 am

Hi

Just looking for confirmation on the model in the picture below. It's advertised as model D but it doesn't seem to look like any other model D rowers I can see online.

Very grateful if anyone can confirm the model and likely age of this rower.

Thanks!

Model D. Be careful online - lots of fakes and knockoff versions out there, some blatantly advertised as a Concept2.

+1 on this.

A few months back I happened upon what was advertised as a Model E on CL, and at first glance it did indeed look like one, but upon closer inspection it was pretty obvious that it was not. There's no way of knowing if the seller knows the truth or not, since they can always plead ignorance, but either way, as a potential buyer you need to be careful. (or buy one from a reputable distributor)

Best of luck to the OP.

It's hard to post images on this forum. I assume the OP wasn't able to get it to work.

Yes, I've noticed. It is usually possible to spot a fake from the photo.

Generally, there won't be an actual PM3 or PM5 (assuming Model D), and the difference will be easy to spot.

Model E may have a PM4 which has the same layout but is silver.

Model C may have a PM2 which is much different, and obsolete. Some late Model C came with PM3, I think.

Any of the above may have been upgraded to PM5 (on a real Concept 2 that is; not on a counterfeit).

I have seen counterfeit decals and paint jobs, but the ones I've seen aren't all that convincing.

There are some machines out there that are designed to be able to be "upgraded" to a PM5 (i.e. their sensor and connector mimicks a C2). As the machine (especially flywheel inertia and sprocket size) is not identical, this will result in a PM5 producing unreliable metrics.

Why? Post the image on https://imgur.com and it gives you the phpbb2 code to use on here. For small images they can be posted on here directly. The only rule is that the image url must end with *.gif, *.jpeg, *.jpg or *.png (so the forum can recognise it as an image).

Not everyone has nor wants to have an account there or on other cloud storage sites.

Given how inexpensive online storage is these days, the size restrictions on images posted here are totally out of whack with all the other forums I post in and seem unreasonable to me.

You don't need to have an account. Anyway, I agree to your opinion.

I assumed you did. My mistake.

(I went to the site, saw a "Login" button, concluded that one had to have an account, and didn't dig further.)

Many forums now just allow you to post an image direct.

Storage is cheap now and you then have control of the images long term, like when PhotoBucket packed it in all the linked images get lost.

Concept 2 need to update things on here so people can just attach an image thats stored on here not some 3rd party.

Bit off - topic, but the image thing is really different compared to other forums
Was an active user on the hifi forum long time and there they have a gallery, where you could organize your images and link them to your posts. If you liked to post the same image in different threads, because it made sense, you could go to your gallery and link the same image again in any thread.
