PM5 and Ergdata losing connection

Post by Mwoodburn » August 1st, 2023, 9:18 am

I have been doing petes plan for several weeks and for the first 16 weeks or so I had no issues. PM5 and Ergdata would work flawlessly and I wouldn't have any issues.

Now for the last few weeks 2-3 times a week mid row my Ergdata app will lose its connection, and reconnect. The PM5 continues to display the workout fine. Problem is when the workout is done, I lose my target pace, heart rate, and stroke rate. And I don't have the graphs to closer track my workout. It's very frustrating.

Also in the last few weeks, my stroke rate will randomly spike up to 70-80+. For instance yesterday I rowed a 10k at a consistent 22spm and about 4 times during the workout it will just shoot up for a few seconds then come back down and track properly.

For specifics --my PM5 is hardware version 907, and firmware version 212. I have a galaxy Z fold 3 phone with the latest Ergdata update. I use a garmin heartrate HRM pro plus, I wear a garmin venu 2 plus watch, and Samsung galaxy buds +. I mention all of this merely because my hunch is something is not playing well with the others. The heartrate monitor is fairly new, I had a polar I used until about week 17 but it was defective and that's when I got the garmin. I can't remember if the issues started immediately or even with the polar.

Any help is much appreciated. When I finish petes plan I plan on rowing a Marathon, and if the Ergdata app loses data halfway through the workout I'm going to be absolutely devastated.

Thank you!

Start by upgrading everything.
  • PM5 firmware.
  • App version.
Place the phone closer to the PM5.

Phone is on the phone holder, it can't really be any closer than it is. Everything is updated to the latest version.

Are all the connections being made by BT?

it seems like there might be some issues with that side of things maybe...
