Is 25 million metres too much?

Just picked up a used Model D with a PM 5. I’m a total newbie to this and I naively assumed that this would mean it was quite a new rower, but after getting it home I found this forum and checked the mileage which is about 25 million metres? That seems incredibly high - can it be right? Or have I inadvertently bought an ex-gym machine?
To my untrained eye it seems in good shape - there is a bit of a rattle from the flywheel, but everything else seems smooth.

If it rides well and is generally in good shape then not really a problem. They are well built machines that go on and on when well maintained.

Bungee may be a little slack or need checking I guess.

Mine is near 10million metres and has never had a professional service.....no issues.

Agree with Alex - condition is everything, if it feels good it is good, they go on forever. Model Ds have been out since 2003 and PM5s since 2014 so that's their age limit but you can check with the serial numer it gives the build date. Of course if the PM5 is a replacement for an earlier PM then the erg itself may have done more. FWIW many on here do circa 2 MM per year with some exceeding that, though rarely above 4 MM. So if the machine is post 2014 then it has had quite a bit of use by an individual, or could have been in a gym. As I said though, doesn't really matter if properly maintained and feels right.

Shouldn't be a rattle from the flywheel, I would remove the side cover and give the housing a vacuum out and look for a flywheel weight that has fallen off.

Well, that's a lot indeed. Most likely gym or even ex boat house machine. Hopefully you at least got it at bargain deal. As mentioned, do a basic maintenance and see how it feels afterwards. I would prefer to have device with lower mileage, even with C2 bulletproof reputation, that a lot of hours for all moving parts, chain, sprocket, bearing, etc...

25 Mm is not so much as it seems, little more than half way round the world. See if you can destroy it in the next half; not placing any bets though, you win anyway.

I don't think that's an issue. I've had my Model D PM5 for 4.5 years and I'm on 13.5 million metres without any issues other than having to oil the chain occasionally.

18000K on YOM2012 model D shared between original PM3, replacement PM4 and then PM5. One nickelplate chain, one chain return cord, 1 set seat rollers replaced, and one set C Watts recommended sealed bearings pressed into the “new rollers.” EndureRow seat swapped for original. Machine is 11 yrs. Old. I’m 76 this July. It will see me out.
