Install of Part PN 1762

Post by hangten » February 4th, 2022, 7:21 pm

Hello, I would like to know what to use as adhesive for PN 1762 on a Concept D, the veneer that protects the frame from the groves made by the rollers of the seat.

I am thinking an E6000 type of glue or maybe a double-sided tape that is used for iPhone batteries. I am getting a clacking sound and want to resolve that since I live in a wood building apartment as well to the intrusive noise. I already tried to use gutter adhesive and let it sit for a week to cure but it didn't take (more than likely because it wasn't designed not to be exposed to air) so I put some thin packing foam and that didn't resolve either. I thought of hot glue but by the time I lay two bead, one for each side of the seat's rollers, the glue would probably have cooled and lost its properties maybe. As well, the cost of having to buy more clamps to hold the part in place with the box frame could be avoided by using a $10 roll of double sided tape if this would work, which I am asking to know of if there is anyone out there who has experience with this type of maintenance/project and who can enlighten me of how to resolve.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think I've read somewhere on the forum that C2 uses double-sided tape. I don't know if they use the very, very thin kind, or the type that has a bit of foam between adhesive layers. I believe I saw it in a thread that discussed replacing the rail cover (Part #1762). If you do some searching around you may find it.

Alternatively, you could give C2 a call and ask them if any of the options you're considering are likely to work.

Good Luck

From the description there is tape and two rivets. Look like a difficult install. Good luck.

The Concept 2 factory install is 2 strips of double sided tape.

I ran into problems with it when I used to sweat a lot and the sweat travels down the center of the rail where there is no tape. The whole rail cap came loose.

It was a lot of work cleaning up the alloy monorail as just paint in no match for highly corrosive sweat.

You really want just the thin double sided tape, something decent like 3M and get a width that covers the full monorail with two or 3 strips.

Everything has to be really clean and it needs to be fitted at the start with the holes for the plastic rivets that line up.

Not really hard to refit the stainless capping strip. Just get the alignment right at the start and drop the strip down, press down hard along the rail and the weight of you on the seat rowing will do the rest.

The clacking sound will not be coming from the rail unless something is visibly damaged. The noise is more likely to be coming from bearings in the seat rollers. With the rail clean and the rollers clean and new bearings the seat slides with almost no noise.
