Tablet holder recommendations

Post by JohnGB » November 22nd, 2021, 12:44 pm

I'm looking for a tablet holder for my Model D (with PM5), that is available in Europe. Can anyone recommend one that has worked well for them?

I use a music stand next to the PM5 because I want both tablet and phone up there, and I do not want anything mounted below the PM5 where the handle might hit it. The erg is in my garage, so esthetics were not an issue.

Other options I considered: the new $25 mount from concept2 https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/ ... r-retrofit, the model-D specific mounts on etsy https://www.etsy.com/shop/LucianDepold? ... 1058179735 and the million clamp-on tablet mounts avail on amazon https://www.amazon.com/s?k=clamp-on+tab ... nb_sb_noss. Of those I'd go for one of the clamp mounts to get the tablet away from the handle.

Do you find that turning your head to one side slightly is a problem for your neck? I have a music stand, so I may just give this a try and see how it works out.

Thanks for the links. Is it just me that actually uses the PM5, and wants the buttons within easy reach? So many of the mounting options rely on having the arm vertical, which (for me at least) puts the PM5 out of reach.

I use the one from C2 ( it came with the Rowerg) and it works great even on my iPad Pro 12.9 inch. It came with the rower, don’t know if it would be worth $25 though. It works, but there’s really not much to it for that price. I assumed it was a $10 item.

I don't watch video so I'm not constantly looking in that direction, but I have wondered about that too. No noticeable strains or pains.

I use the one from RowFree (https://www.rowfree.com/). It works with pretty much anything you can sit in the tray, from phones to tablets. My wife and I use it for iPads, and it’s as easy as can be to use, and stays where you adjust it. If there is and downside, I’d say the bare metal feels a little slick, like the iPad could slide in it. Mine has a Otterbox cover on it, so it doesn’t move at all. I thought about adding a little piece of rubber to the bottom, but so far my wife’s bare iPad has stayed put.

It’s about $50, is lightweight, unobtrusive, and works. I like it.

I'm about to order a tablet holder, either the Rowfree or C2 retrofit, to fit my model D.

For anyone using the C2 retrofit are the tablet & PM5 within reach, or do you have to unstrap your feet to get to them?
The geometry of the replacement arm looks like both are further away than the PM5 is now.

Any reason to prefer the Rowfree over the C2 retrofit?

For video I wondered about a VR headset. But I'm nearsighted and that effectively adds another $100 to make it work, so I'd be looking at $400 just to watch videos. Not happening

I purchased a tablet tripod on Amazon for $20. Haven't gotten it yet but it's an idea.

I prefer having the tablet mounted a bit higher, so I wound up purchasing one that attaches to the top of the PM5. I purchased it on Etsy. It's a bit pricey, but it works as promised, is very stable, and holds a 12.9" iPad Pro that's in a case without a problem. The seller is in Germany, but the mount shipped immediately and got here very quickly (in a few days).
