Best chain oil??
Best chain oil??
Hello guys, the official website recommended mineral oil, 3-IN-ONE® oil, or 20W motor oil, but which one is the best? Thanks in advance!

Re: Best chain oil??
Well actually a cat knocked off my old 2000 bottle of C2 chain oil and the yellowed plastic container shattered and the oil went all over the concrete a couple of weeks ago.
It was during the cleanup that I noticed its not really a mineral oil, its more likely a silicone oil as the cleanup with soapy water was fairly easy. This would make sense as if it ever got in your clothing it would wash out easily and it being clear is a bonus with no stains.

3 in 1 seems to work fine. I don’t know if it’s “the best,” but it is recommended by C2, so that’s what I use.

I use spray silicone. Works great, last a good while, chain runs quieter, and everything is shiny and clean.

I would think the type of oil is not that important. There is no weather, dirt, or gear changes like there is on a bicycle. Just make sure to wipe off the excess so as to not have a dripping mess.

concept 2 recommends 3 and1 I thinks its 20 weight oil because it does not collect dust . Some chain oils like for bikes or motorcycles are very tacky to stay on chain at high speeds but they collect dust . Any light weight motor oil will work .
