Logging Just Row Sessions?

Post by Big Data » September 15th, 2021, 1:18 pm

I'm confused about how and when "Just Row" workouts get logged.

The manual https://www.concept2.com/service/monito ... ust-rowski says:

"Note: You must row or ski for at least one minute or 100 meters for Just Row/Just Ski results to be saved in memory or on your LogCard. After your last stroke of a Just Row workout, press Menu or Menu | Back twice and the meters rowed will be saved. This can also be achieved by waiting 6 seconds after your last stroke and pressing Menu or Menu | Back once. Just Row/Just Ski workouts can be up to 50,000 meters."

If I don't press Menu after my last stroke, will the workout be saved or not?
What if I press Menu hours later, is that workout saved then?
If not saved, is that time then not recorded in the Logbook Summary Time?

For any "Just Row" workout you MUST press the [MENU] (or menu|back on PM4)button when you're done.

I have logged over 36,000,000 meters, in 5200+ workouts over the last 24 seasons with not "one" just row workout.

Neat. I have a ton of just rows.

How do you warm up and cool down ? Most of my sessions include 1 or 2 just rows. I'm too lazy to put in a 20 minute timed session to do a warmup - just row works fine for it. I paddle a cool down until my HR gets below my long/slow HR, just row is perfect for that, stop when you are done.

Also any time I break something (like using PB 2K splits for a 5K attempt and needing to stop early) it gets counted as a "just row".

FWIW I use ergdata. When I stop rowing on a just row Ergdata puts up a text box asking if I am done. If I hit that Ergdata button on the android tablet the workout on the Pm5 ends without hitting the menu button. The workout gets recorded correctly in the PM5, Ergdata and syncs just fine to the C2 log.

Alternatively, when I stop rowing on a just row and Ergdata puts up a text box asking if I am done I can hit the menu button on the PM5 whiteout responding to Ergdata. That makes the text box on Ergdata go away and also records everything correctly.

Never done a just row in over 12 years and coming up 20 million meters this season, they are totally pointless and unstructured.

Setup a time or distance it gets recorded no problem.

The just row function is something you would use at a gym for a 5 minute warmup before you did legs that day.

Always use Just Row for warm ups. It’s the best thing for me. I warm up until I feel ready not for an exact time or distance every time. Just jump on and row away, usually have to adjust the seat pad or my mankini in the first couple of mins. For a UT1 session I’ll warm up for 6-8 minutes so why would I put 8 mins and stop short, or 6 mins and want to go for longer?
Also like Just Row for a recovery session when I know I’ll do at least 45 mins but more likely an hour, and maybe go on longer. Again I don’t want to put a set time in.

I use "just ride" almost all of the time, the only exceptions being repetitions and time trials, which are rare in the summers. Most of the time I let the monitor go off on it's own, without pressing anything, and the meters are recorded.

That is my experience also, I believe the manual is incorrect regarding this function.

But then why is there a difference between "Lifetime Meters" and "Logbook Summary -> Meters"? That would seem to indicate some workout sessions are not being recorded.

Rest meters on intervals ? A 4 X 2K shows up as 8K meters in the log entry. If you do active recovery the extra meters show up in the detailed log entry and in total meters... ?

I also never do warmups or cooldowns, Even when racing, I don't warm up.

I typically don't but their are performance gains to be made with the right warmup, especially a very short all out sprint. Occasionally I do a cool down, this helps keep the circulation going and can defiantly help reduce muscle soreness the following day.

I wouldn't write off either as a complete waste of time.

I very rarely do a warmup, and it's always quite short I bother at all, and I also never do cooldowns. I've never suffered from DOMS from the rower, so i don't see the point.

I did a 1k WU for the 12 min session on Wednesday, but I didn't do anything other than a five mile walk about an hour beforehand for the 30 mins challenge at the recent BRVC. I usually perform worse if I do a WU, but I'm not saying that anyone else should follow my lead, it's just what works for me.

As @Tsnor notes, the best way is to use ErgData. As soon as you stop rowing, it’ll ask if you’re done. If you’re not and just stopped for a moment, just start rowing and your workout continues. If you’re done, click on the app and it takes care of terminating the workout and saving it to memory. It will save to your C2 online log book when you sync workouts. Very, very useful app.

Otherwise, yes… click the menu button!

That's great for you, but it doesn't really address the OP's question.

Obviously plenty of folks use "just row". I believe Citroen has answered the question.
