USB / Log Utility Disconnect
USB / Log Utility Disconnect
Scratching my head on this one, and cannot figure out what is off.
For the last 3 months I have been using a USB stick to transfer data from my PM5 without issue. Today when I went to go load, I was able to transfer the data to the USB, but when I went into the C2 Utility and go to upload, it does not see any workouts. I logged out and logged back in, and it verifies my profile ok, but again, when I insert the USB it does not see the workout. I even did another quick minute set, moved the workout to the USB, inserted in my computer, and when I go to upload, it does not see it.
Other thing I notice is it says PM5 Memory for the Result Date/Time, but for the life of me, I cannot see a way to get this to go to USB Stick. I have tried multiple times to go all the way out and then back in logging in with no luck. My PM5 seems to move the workout to the USB stick fine, so I think this is something with the Utility where it will not let me do it as a USB Stick, and even when I log out, go all the way out, close the program, select USB Sticjk and then log in, same thing
Thanks

Re: USB / Log Utility Disconnect
Get ErgData running on your mobile phone and connect it to the PM5, its a way better way to run your logbook.
I wouldn't put a USB stick in the PM5 for any reason, for starters it sucks the life out of your batteries.
ErgData is currently the ultimate, it sync's with the Concept 2 Logbook at the press of the button and has more information in the upload.

Re: USB / Log Utility Disconnect
Is it possible the PM5 has lost the correct date/time? If not the workout might cause a corruption on the USB stick. If you haven't already, download the C2 utilities software. Under the maintenance option you can "Manage stored results" and if it detects any issues on the usb stick it will offer to correct them without losing data. HTH

Re: USB / Log Utility Disconnect
ErgData is totally useless for me. I got it to connect exactly once, I had to uninstall/reinstall it on my phone half a dozen times and have not been able to get it to reconnect since (Samsung S8). I can pair by phone with the PM5, but for what ever reason, when I try with ErgData, it never connects.Carl Watts wrote: ↑August 14th, 2021, 6:19 pmGet ErgData running on your mobile phone and connect it to the PM5, its a way better way to run your logbook.

I have not had any issues with the 3+ months with just transferring USB, and while I just crossed over 1M meters, battery still displaying 100%
Re: USB / Log Utility Disconnect
It is not the date time. It looks like somehow my USB is unpaired or has a different user attached to it.MPx wrote: ↑August 14th, 2021, 6:24 pmIs it possible the PM5 has lost the correct date/time? I have gotten around it temporarily by installing a new copy of the utility on a laptop that did not have it installed before, I then created a brand new USB stick, and I am able to move the workouts from my PM5 and it will see the workout and load it to my online log. It still did not see it on my main PC. My user id on my PM5 is 2 characters shorter since it only allows 6, so for what ever reason, I think my instance on my main PC is looking for workouts time to my Online Log username (8 characters) and not my PM5 username (6 characters) and it does not give me a way to reset it.
It looks like there is no issue between the PM5 and the USB, and it is transferring the workouts, but the Utility is looking for an 8 character USB which I think is impossible, so when it sees the USB stick, it will never find the workouts.
I could probably just uninstall / reinstall, but would that there was a convenient way to just correct / match up but looks like the only option they give you is to login/logout of the Online Log for linking.

Update the Firmware on your PM5.
Then factory default reset it by holding the bottom 2 buttons change units and change display buttons down and pin the reset button on the back at the same time with the end of a paper clip.
You need to setup ErgData with your phone as per the Concept 2 video on YouTube. The pairing process is different to normal.

Having said that the latest firmware version V169 for the PM5 causes connectivity problems with my old Samsung A3(2017) so I have to stay with V168, this version is faultless. The video is old but the general idea is the same.
There will be a firmware version, either the old one or the new one that will work.
Not sure how far away the latest firmware version release is for the PM5, cannot be far away now.
The latest version of ErgData for Android is 1.98
Works faultlessly, just turn on the PM5, open ErgData then the screen swipes left all by itself, hit the connect button to the right PM5 and your done.

Re: USB / Log Utility Disconnect
Appreciate the tips Carl. I had seen the video and tried those steps (i.e letting ErgData turn on BlueTooth, etc.
My PM5 is at v169. Maybe the next iteration of the firmware will take care of it, but not sure I want to go and regress my firmware to an earlier version. Next version of either ErgData or next firmware release, I may try again.
Thanks though for the great write-up. I tend to be cautious with Firmware updates, last thing I want to do is brick my erg

Re: USB / Log Utility Disconnect
Pretty sure its much harder to brick your monitor these days.
More likely to be like modern BIOS, both the old and the new versions still exist so if something goes wrong it can revert to the old version.
V168 is the better version to use, its easy to roll back if you have the file, be it a little strange you open the update utility and then drag the file from your desktop over the top of it and go from there. Have done it a few times now on my PM5 as I also tried the V169 Beta version and thats no good either.
I'm picking that V170 will probably not fix the problem.
I have the V168 file so if you want it, PM me with your e-mail address and I will send it to you.
Sent C2 an e-mail that they should have the "Legacy" versions of firmware available on their website to download with the links in the firmware timeline. I have a feeling that I will be on V168 for a few more years until the old Samsung A3 phone dies.
There are no big changes in V169 and the "Improvements to Bluetooth application behavior" was clearly not an improvement for many users with old phones.

99% sure ErgData will work for you if you go to V168.
