New Rowerg bad bearings out of the box?

Post by Tthome » May 8th, 2021, 6:32 pm

I've just assembled my Rowerg D and from the very first few pulls it sounds like popping and the sounds of popcorn in the fan? WTH? I've had this thing 1 full hour, made only 15 strokes and this sound is driving me batty. Any idea of the fan bearings are bad from the get go? The sounds goes away when the fan starts to really slow down. At speed it's horrible and annoying. I'd like to only hear the blissful sound of air whooshing...instead I hear what sounds similar to crackling of a campfire and popping sounds.

Might there be something loose inside the flywheel cage area, bouncing around as the fan spins?

It's easy enough to take apart to check. You can then also spin the flywheel by hand and see how it behaves.

^^^^^

But don't remove the flywheel just yet. Remove the cover and see what's going on.

The fan should spin (smoothly) in one direction and in the other pull the chain / handle.

That’s exactly what mine was for new Concept 2 Model D January 2021. I kept rowing through the popcorn/crackling campfire sound and it went away in a week when I found lacking polystyrene on the carpet beneath the rower.

BINGO CARL! I removed the perforated steel band and the outer flywheel cover and found a little chuck of styrofoam wedged in the damper area. I checked the entire flywheel and damper assembly for any more pieces. I did a quick pull test with the damper assembly removed and it was blissful air whooshing, not popcorm or campfire sound. I replaced all the parts I removed and it's whisper quiet now. Thank you!
