Model C - PM2 stays on zero

Post by wstevena » February 25th, 2021, 8:52 pm

I have an issue where the PM2 monitor display seems to be functioning according to the self test, but does not turn on when I row and is stuck on zero when I turn it on.

Even though the Monitor pickup looked to be in good shape, I ordered a new one and replaced it, as that was the guidance from the C2 website. Well, this did not solve the problem yet.

They no longer make the PM2 monitor and I would hate to spend $200 on a PM5 and still not have a working setup. What else should I check?

Most of the time its not the tach sensor.

Generally battery leakage has taken out a copper track. If there is any sign of white or green power in the battery compartment or the terminals are rusty or have corrosion on them its a battery leakage problem.

You can do some searching on this forum but unless you have an electronics background the best option is to buy a new monitor unless your either in the UK or New Zealand where it can be repaired.

Its very rare to have all three of the magnets in the flywheel corrode or fail and you would only need one working to switch the monitor on when you row but you need all three for the monitor to display the information correctly.

99% chance a PM5 configured to a Model C rower in its options menu would work no problems.

Thank you, that makes sense. The battery was corroded when I replaced it.

It looks like the PM5 retrofit kit is out of stock in the U.S., so I am out of luck for a while.

Mine corroded, too.

I ended up getting the PM5 Retrofit for the Model C. Received a couple days ago and it works fine. It's a very nice upgrade to the original Model C PM. I think you will really like it.

My PM2 on my Model C stopped working. Tried new batteries and unplugging and replugging the lead and it still did not go on.

In desperation, I removed the batteries and left them out for 24 hours. Just put fresh batteries in, and it works now!
