Hi! Trying to tune up a Model B erg for myself and my daughter. I got it for free years ago. It’s in amazing shape. Taught my daughters how to row on it. We’ve have enjoyed it now for 12+ years.
Now my third daughter is 13 and pulling times of 18 year olds... so she’s looking for more training than just at crew prax.
I’m just not sure where the bearing is tho!
Is it in the center of the wheel behind the wind screens?
I have the 3 in 1 oil ready to go, just need to know where to put it! I’ve scoured the concept 2 site but it does not mention it. Appreciate if anyone knows.
Thanks!
Where is and how to oil the Model B bearings?

I don’t know a lot about the B, but the C2 site has quite a bit of info, including manuals, maintenance manuals, schematic exploded-diagrams and such here:

I hope there is something there to show you the part location you’re searching for!

Re: Where is and how to oil the Model B bearings?
Thanks Rick! I’ve read it all and found nothing about piling the bearings...
. I’m guessing it is on the side the damper is on, I’m just nervous about taking the tower apart and then goofing something up... I may lay it on its side and use a straw to get the oil in to where I’m pretty sure the bearings are.
I saw a new bearing online, C2 site, just leery of disassembling it to do that.

Re: Where is and how to oil the Model B bearings?
My original model B from 1987 has never had the bearing(s) oiled and the flywheel spins freely. Why do you think you need to oil the flywheel bearings? Unless some damage has occurred or it was sitting unused in a wet environment or some other unusual circumstance, it should be fine.

Re: Where is and how to oil the Model B bearings?
Hello Mark, so I was thinking it needed piling because it’s a little noisy after the drive and the fly wheel starts to coast. Maybe it’s the clutch? Idk, with my daughter killing her times and looking for more and me rowing now almost every day and my hubby learning too, the last thing I needed was our precious erg to break.
We’re gonna train so my hubby and I can row a double on the river with her in a single this spring.
.
For all I know this one has never been oiled either. I’ve had it.about 12 years and I’ve never done it, maybe I’m fine then?

Re: Where is and how to oil the Model B bearings?
The model B is noisy to begin with, but if you're talking about mechanical noise rather than wind noise, then that's different. Or if the flywheel slows down very fast, not slowly coasting down you may have an issue.
Have you oiled the chain? Is the noise coming from the return mechanism inside the rail? I'd check all the standard maintenance items first. See C2's site on that; https://www.concept2.com/service/indoor ... aintenance.
