WTB liverowing connect cable for PM3/4 (USA)

Post by JoshKaptur » January 6th, 2021, 3:57 pm

C2 Model D with PM3 here. She's collected dust for a few years but I'm back to 3x week rowing for 2021.

Don't want to upgrade to PM5, but cable is out of stock on the liverowing.com store with no indication of when it will be back. You simply get an error message saying you can't buy it right now. C2 doesn't have a solution (other than upgrade to PM5)... they direct you to liverowing on this page https://www.concept2.com/service/softwa ... quirements)

Anyone upgraded to a PM5 and have a retired liverowing connect cable (the one with an iOS lighting connection) sitting around?

Please PM me and I'm sure we can work out a fair price.

Josh

Used cable seems a good solution. If you can't get one an alternative is to get a kindle and a cheap cable and just dedicate the kindle to ergdata. Don't use the iphone at all as a capture device.

Here is a post proving kindle to PM3 connectivity. https://stravarow.wordpress.com/author/stravarow/ You might want a longer cable than the one in the post... unless you have a way to physically attach the kindle to the model D or PM3. I use a music stand to hold my kindle. 7" kindle is usually $50 but drops on sale to $40. An old, used android phone would work the same way and might be cheaper. The display would be worse though.

cable specs from the post
"You will also need a USB host cable £3.15 that can also be bought on Amazon here – StarTech.com 5in Micro USB to USB OTG Host Adapter – Micro USB Male to USB A Female On-The-GO Host Cable Adapter"

THANK YOU so much! I had an Kindle Fire in a drawer collecting dust. Instead of a new PM5... instead of a new $45 liverowing cable... I'm set up with what I wanted for a $6 adapter from Amazon. Really really appreciate you pointing this out.

do take a look at the cable. It's possible the blog entry just linked an adapter that would let you connect the kindle to an ordinary usb printer cable and assumed you already had that cable. I think the cable you need is a micro-usb printer cable but please check it.

(the kindle I'm using likely had as much dust on it as yours, it was one of several kindles unused in a drawer so the price was right for me too).

To download ergdata you just go to the amazon ap store and look for ergdata. free. no problems at all when i installed it in Nov 2020. If ergdata does not show up then your kindle is not compatible. It showed up for the cheap 6" and 7" kindle fires I own, it did not show up for my big$ kindle hdx7.

You need a USB-B (typically fits a printer) to a micro-usb for Kindle 7. The higher models (8, 10) now have a usb-c so that is a different cable. Kindle 7 is the one which has been reported to be compatible. I am also waiting for the next special ($39 or $29) from Amazon. In the meantime I have a old nexus 5 android phone but would like the larger screen and battery life of the fire tablet.
