pm5 backlight timer...

Post by withnail69 » October 19th, 2020, 6:32 am

Bit annoyed that to keep the backlight on during interval training I am advised by Concept2 to keep hitting the display button to turn the light back on.. Does anyone know if there are any plans to introduce a timeout feature so I could manually set the backlight to not turn off for 2-4 mins after last being woken up.. During intervals yesterday.. After the rest time had ran out even though the timer was on 0. The PM5 still starts counting time for that leg of the workout. Which is also a pain.

Not sure about the monitor, but you could use a smartphone app to show it counting down, assuming you've got a smartphone of course...not everyone wants one.

I use Ergzone, but Ergdata shows it as well, and it is always lit up. If you get a phone holder from C2 it can sit just above the monitor

Yeah good point. I do have a smartphone holder so could do that. Just seems a bit annoying to have to. Thanks for the tip

The backlight has a 45 second timout. The workout has a 4 minute timeout (unless you're in a rest between intervals).
The timeouts are reset by pressing any button (except [BACK]).

I find that the 45 second backlight timer isn't a problem as the workout is still running down on my phone running Ergdata so I can look at that.

You could write an email to rowing@concept2.com and ask if it can change so the backlight stays on during interval rests.

Its deffo not lasting 45 seconds.. Its more like 10 seconds (after a input or rowing stops)

That's not right; mine stays on for 45 seconds. May be worth contacting C2?

Start by updating to the latest firmware (V169, V31 or V200) using https://www.concept2.com/service/monitors/pm5/firmware

From concept2

The backlight will only be active for about 10 secs if there is no activity, therefore you can either push a button or pull the handle for the monitor to remain in an active zone.

That's not how it works in the intervals between reps.

Don't you just love the consistency.

Is the backlight timeout something you are looking to rectify with later firmware updates cause it’s really impossible to row intervals when the backlight keeps turning off

Hi

It is something we've tweaked in firmware releases since the main priority is to prevent too much battery drain when the flywheel is not in motion since the generator is not providing power at this point. However the backlight is only intended to be used in low level lighting environments and not as a substitute to provide light to see the display in the dark.

We also listen to feedback from the customers in any case and therefore I can forward the comments on to the rest of the dev team.

Regards

Do you want me to make a video of the backlight during reps ? It does exactly the same thing as there is no activity

I've never seen that doing intervals with Ergdata. But I've not rowed since March 16th.
