Problem with USB-key

Post by cma » October 17th, 2020, 9:32 am

I have access to two Concept2 rowers - both with PM5 monitors:

First rower:
Hardware version: 340
Firmware version: 31

Second rower:
Hardware version: 620
Firmware version: 169

USB-key works fine on first rower but not on second rower. I am using an 8 GB USB-key formatted with FAT32

How do I make the USB-key work on the second rower?

The PM5 design goes back to 2014 and does NOT play nice with a lot of USB flash drives - it needs low capacity, low power draw USB2.0 sticks.

I'd advise picking up a stick that's known to work: viewtopic.php?t=185114

TL;DR: Verbatim Metal Executive USB 2.0.

Does it work if you reformat the USB stick using the Concept2 utility (V7.10.01) and use in rower #2 first?

This is good advice, it won't work with USB3.0 sticks.

I use a Sandisk Cruzer Blade 16GB USB2

I have a PM5 with the older firmware and intialized it on this PM5. I can take it to the gym and plug it into a PM5 that has the newest firmware and it works OK on both.

I found an old USB stick that says 'Windows Vista' on it, and I think is 128kb

It works great! My son uses it for his account so he can log miles without messing with Daddy's numbers.

As mentioned above, try and find the oldest and smallest memory USB stick you can find.

Thanks for the replies. I have now prepared an other USB-key identical to the one that works with hardware version 340 (Kingston DataTraveler 101 (G2) - 8GB) using Concept2 Utility 7.10.01 - I will give it a try next time I am in the gym.
