Glue for grips on wood handle?

I just purchased an old Model B rower, and while using it for the first time last night, I noticed that the rubber grips are loose on the wood handle, and gradually slide off while rowing. Otherwise, the grips appear to be in good shape, so I'd like to just glue them back on if I can. Any suggestions on what type of glue to use to reattach them? I tried searching the forum, but couldn't find anything.

Any of the PVA type glues should work OK - Copydex used to be one of the market leading brands, don't know if it still is. Alternatively put the price of a tub of glue towards a new model D handle which has a slightly different shape and I find much more comfortable than the original wooden one on my model C.

Toss it and buy a new Model D handle its better all round.

Its wider, the grips are a smaller diameter and its ergonomically better with the angle on it and its easier to clean. The Wooden handle foam gets disgusting with sweat, mine used to stink and I had to remove it and wash it.

If you are OK with the wood handle, you can get new black rubber grips from C2 for $3.50 each (part # 191). They fit tight enough that you shouldn't have to use glue if you clean up all the old residue first. I put those on my model B wood handle before I got the new plastic ergonomic handle, which I agree, is much more comfortable.

Just to be the contrarian here, in my experience I haven't found that much difference between the wood and the plastic handles in terms of comfort. If the wood works for you, I'd keep using it. YMMV

Aside: I have found that the rubber of the plastic handle tends to be more slippery when sweaty compared to the grip of the wood handles. I used my C for years without issues, but when I started to use the E at the gym I had to get some gloves to keep the handle from slipping out during sprints. It may all be in my head, but not once did I fly off the end of the erg on my C due to a premature handle release (I row strapless) but after the second time on the E I decided to get the gloves, and it hasn't happened since.

It might work, it might not, but we use hair spray to attach motorcycle grips to the bars. The advantage of this is that you can get them off without having to cut the grips, and they stay firmly attached at speed.

I’ve done the same thing in the past, so that’s what I tried. Seemed to work on the right grip, but not the left, so I’m going to try to reapply.
