Chain slip on Model C

Hi
I recently bought a second hand C3 from eBay.
Last night, when I pulled hard on the handle, the chain released without any resistance, and I scooted back very quickly - fortunately no harm done but it happened again a few minutes later. It does dent your confidence a bit because now I keep expecting it to do it again.

What is going on here?
Does it require repair?

I have done 68K in two months on this machine and this has been the first time it's happened.

What is a C3

I'm assuming you mean a C2 Model C. Firstly check the chain for any stiff links that might need lube and freeing up. If the chain is skipping and there are nasty noises it could be a worn out sprocket, but that is quite rare. If it's not making any noises then most likely the one way bearing in the flywheel is letting go!!!!

Looked up part for one way bearing and it's 22 quid, so will check chain first. It's not making any noise.

I had this on the machines at the work gym....and we have a glass partition behind the rowers so that was a fun splat as I flew backwards.

Dunno what they did but I believe they just greased her up and put her back into action.

First thing to check is the chain- look for any rust, dryness and stiff links. Lube per the instructions:

There are different versions of the same size bearing from Koyo.

The price of the bearing is not the issue, its replacing it and pushing out the old one and pulling in the new one. You need to make up a bit of kit using a bolt and some washers as a "Puller" or you need access to a press. Using anything that involves a "Hammer" is not an option.

Try lubrication of the bearing first with oil, if that works run it for a while then add some thin grease. If it keeps slipping you have no alternative than to replace the bearing or the entire flywheel.
