just purchased a new model D with a PM5 monitor but i'm getting some erratic readings my spm seem to be spiking dropping as low a 6 and as high as 80 spm, it's not all the time probably every 20 pulls or so ,not sure if this is normal or not.

I just got a new one last week and I had the same problem. At first it was fine but after a couple of days it started doing that. It popped up when I connected both ergdata and a garmin heartrate belt for the first time but I'm not sure if that was a coincidence. Anyway, mine came in with firmware 1.63 and I updated it to 1.66 and it hasn't happened since. Hope that helps.

I also just received a new Model D - PM5 last week. PM5 was at FW 163 and it did record a few SPM spikes the first time I used it, phone/ergdata and HRM connected. I updated to FW 166 and have not seen any more spikes, even with the phone and HRM connected. I believe There was an issue with FW 163 where external wireless devices could prompt occasional erratic stroke readings and firmware version 166 had a fix to take care of these spikes.
