PM3 Options for Connecting to Logbook?

Post by dcpattie » March 3rd, 2019, 5:36 pm

Is it even possible to transfer workout data from a PM3 to the https://log.concept2.com website? If so I wondering what would be the most economic way?

If you just want to transfer overall statistics and per split statistics:
  1. Buy a LogCard, insert it in the PM3 and create a user.
  2. Buy a standard USB printer cable.
  3. Install the C2 Utility on a PC.
  4. Row.
  5. After the row, connect your PC to the PM3 using the printer cable and sync the LogCard to the C2 online logbook using the C2 Utility.
If you want full per stroke data:
  1. Buy an Android phone which can talk to a PM3 via USB*.
  2. Buy a standard USB printer cable.
  3. Buy a USB OTG cable for you Android phone (Micro USB or USB-C depending on the age of the phone).
  4. Install ErgData on the Android phone.
  5. Remove any LogCard from the PM3.
  6. Connect the phone to the PM3 using the two cables.
  7. Start ErgData and make sure it has a connection to the PM3 (green text at the bottom of the screen).
  8. Row.
  9. After the row, let ErgData sync to the C2 online logbook.
*: It can be difficult to find out whether a given Android phone will communicate with a PM3. As a minimum, it needs to have OTG. But I have tried phones which did have OTG and still wouldn't connect to the PM3. I found a cheap second hand HTC One-something which works.

Alternatively, you can also find an iPhone with the old, large connector. C2 makes a cable for that model. But I don't think they have ever made a cable for the newer Lightning connector which iPhone has used for several years now. I don't know if it is still too new for them.

I have recently ordered a cheap Lightning printer cable from China. I have a hope that I can use it to connect my iPhone 7 to the PM3 so I don't have to have an extra Android phone just for that. But the cable hasn't arrived yet, so I can't tell if it will work.
