Laggy PM3?

Post by dcpattie » March 3rd, 2019, 2:04 pm

I have an older Model D rower (grey model) with a PM3. The PM3 seems laggy (sluggish) at the end of a workout. For example, if I'm sprinting at the end of a workout and sneaking in one last stroke - the monitor will not pick it up. On my Skierg (PM5) it always registers the final half stroke at the end.

Would replacing the PM3 with a newer PM5 fix this or are there other components at play that may be causing a "last stroke lag" with the PM3?

What Firmware version is it running when you go into the "Product ID" screen ?

It could be really, really old. You may want to update it and if its still the same it is what it is, There are no components that make it "Laggy"

You may also want to make sure the PM3 is set to the right version of rower in the same screen.

Thanks Carl. I took a snapshot and attached it below. Is it possible to update the firmware on the older PM3 units?

Thats ancient V82 which is like from 2004.

You need to go to the Concept 2 website and update it first to V101 and then download the latest utility and take it to V108.

Your firmware is so old you need to update it twice to get to the latest version.

Going from V82 or older can be ugly, here are some tips.

1. The V101 updater doesn't recognize the PM is connected. Pull the handle on the rower after the PM3 setup to the PC is complete and the monitor communicates to the PC and that problem is solved.

2. Under NO circumstances disconnect the PM until the update to V101 is complete. You can get all sorts of errors like reboot your PC or the USB buffer is full. Keep pushing through and ignore the errors unless you hit a brick wall.

3. Once on V101 the updating is easy with the new C2 utility 7.08.04 you download first.

4. The USB cable only plugs in one way, don't force it in the wrong way or you will push the USB socket off the board of the PM3.

Many thanks Carl! I just might bite the bullet and get a PM5.

Unless you don't have a PC its pretty quick to update the firmware on your PM3. I do it for every PM3 that I service if it needs it.
