In what country are you in? I contacted local support. What did they tell you aside from checking battery and firmware?

I did other tests today without the heart rate band, same spikes in RowPro (latest version) while there's only an initial spike in ErgData...

Just sent a mail to Concept about the same issue which I have with a brand new (1 week old) Model D. PM5 Firmware Version 163 / Hardware Version 633. I'll let you know what they say.

There's nothing to check really as the units are new (both battery and firmware). What's the outcome for you if you try with erg data with and without heart rate?

I could t get ergdata to connect to HR and PM5 :|

I have one last option

Liverowing will connect with my Apple Watch for HR. I’ll check it in the am.

My SPM started getting spiky after I began using a Garmin 735XT app for rowing that required activating a heart rate monitor on the PM5 (even though I don’t have a HRM device) so the app would log heart rate from the watch...something to do with the way the app getting heart rate from either the PM5 or the watch.

Firmware is up to date so I plan to do a PM5 reset to see if that stops the SPM behavior. If it does, I’ll abandon the Garmin app.

I've a C-PM3 since about 2002 which always showed spikes and a scattered force curve. By disconnecting laptop and its power supply I could control the number of spikes: no connections, few spikes.

January 2019 and about time too, switched to a PM5 using the existing PM3 sensor (2-wire I believe). Force curve and barchart dead smooth, not a spike in sight. I also notice some small changes in how PM5 behaves (better) under transient conditions, with respect to PM3.

Today connected the belt (bt and ant+) to both ergdata and the PM5.

No spikes, both work fine, ergdata only needed about 30 strokes warmup to show a reading, PM5 OK after warm-up and some buttons pressed before restarting (no USB stick) as expected. I noticed that on PM5 with the belt connected and a reading, the barchart shows HR, which I didn't know. Useful, can see sudden death acoming. With no belt it shows Watts.

Tested Liverowing that was linked to my apple watch

Had two spikes when I was warming up otherwise it worked fine

hopefully they come up with a solution quickly since most of us appear to have brand new machines and i want to use RowPro

It doesn't appear support monitors this board

They don't, hence why everyone needs to send an email or call them on their toll free number.

I used to have PACE spikes, about 3 or 4 during a 30 minute row but never SPM spikes.

This would have been using RowPro, a PM3 and I think I was still on the Polar HR monitor system with receiver in the PM3.

For some reason it was only on certain hardware versions of the PM3 (I found it as I had several monitors at the time) but no problems these days.

Current setup is the last hardware version of the PM4, the Garmin HR strap and RowPro V4.3.

Just had to update my old PC as it was finally giving me problems using RowPro.

Update with liverowing

No SPM spikes with the liverowing app and using apple watch BUT there are issues with correct HR transferring from the app to the concept2 log. Oh well maybe they will have a fix at some point

Finally something that works

I connected by HR strap (Wahoo TICKR) to liverowing. No issues with recording HR and no spikes

update

downloaded the new beta firmware and uploaded to the rower. Did a brief test and appeared to work ok. I have a 7k wo scheduled for am and will update here after (hopefully solved the problem and didn't introduce new issues)
